Pros

Good colleagues. Free masseuse and physical therapists if you are in Riga. Snacks in the office, monthly wolt lunch money.

Cons

People running the company do not care about their employees at all. End of last year they secured 45M in funding (this is public knowledge) and they said that the company can operate for 2 years with 0 income (hypothetical statement by CEO). Roughly 6 months later, 31st of May, there is an impromptu company-wide meeting saying that people are being laid off. From what I remember, they blamed it on the stock market and some other stuff. In the "exit interview" they did not provide a specific reason for laying you off and from what I learned later, the decision to fire someone wasn't made by consulting the individual's team. More than 10% were laid off. My guess, people who negotiated the highest salaries. Despite that, they kept (and keep) hiring to fill some of those roles. Week before lay-offs they open a new office in Tallinn, months before that they get another building next to the main office, despite the office being half-empty. The money is thrown left and right to keep a good public image, instead of making sure people who have worked for them for years can keep their job. This has happened before - when the first lockdown happened in 2020, Printify laid off people, expecting for the business to decline, however, they grew 3x that year. It seems like history is repeating itself and most likely people will be fired in the future again, as soon as they smell smoke. I joined in 2020 and since then the company has become less transparent. A lot of important decisions made by upper management will only reach the teams affected by them only when the customer is complaining. Monthly Town Halls are no longer a place for anonymous questions, and even a lot of questions asked by named individuals are simply ignored or given a generic response afterwards. Lots of promises made in 2020 and 2021 have been forgotten and unfulfilled, for instance, hiring a Remuneration Specialists was mentioned in 2020, to ensure employees get the best benefits and best salaries on the market. As of the end of May, they have not hired a person like that and are no longer looking for this person. As from a developer standpoint - their development environment has always been a mess and made me actually hate working as a developer. People continuously work on it, but it doesn't seem like there is any progress forward, only sideways - new tools achieving the same result and having different issues. Career growth is slow and painful - there are levels 1-6 and most people will be between 3 and 4. There is a spreadsheet for each level with tons of criteria - lots of it does not make sense or can't really be done/applied. They might say this is a clear ladder that you can climb, but in reality it is a reason for them not to promote you or increase your salary. During my time working there, around 1.5 years, I received one salary raise - 2.85%.

Hello, first and foremost, thank you for your feedback. We sincerely believe that every piece of feedback helps us improve and grow. Someone losing their job for any reason is never an easy decision to make, but we know that it’s much harder if you’re the one losing your job, so these were not choices we made easily. We want Printify to offer a great product and service for our customers for many years to come and so we had to make responsible decisions regarding our spending. No decisions were made without consulting team leaders. We are also not hiring at the same pace as before. We are also focused on making the experience for our team that remains as rewarding and challenging as possible, which includes providing a first-class work environment and space. Our team works very hard to ensure that salaries, benefits, and career opportunities are everything they can be. We will of course take your feedback and look again to see if we are living up to expectations. Thank you again for taking the time to leave us your feedback, we wish you every success in your future career.

Once a great company overtaken by toxic culture

Pros

I'm extremely grateful for everything I learned at Printify and the people I met there (although most of them left the company because of the new working culture). The first half of my journey there was great, but the second one was not so (more about that in the cons section).

Cons

I started at Printify 2 years ago and I was truly happy to be there, amazing people, great challenges, nice perks, and tons of things to learn. When I started there was this magic and energy of an amazing working culture - transparent, brave, bold, honest, and humble. But as we know culture = people. People change, and they bring a new culture with them. Unfortunately for Printify, the culture that was brought on board appeared to be highly toxic. The new culture is a culture of ego. It is about politics and regime. Simply saying, you can't disagree with leadership. A top-down approach is driven by opportunism. Lack of strategy, long-term thinking, and research. Company strategy may shift multiple times in a year. Huge projects get started without understanding the reason behind them, employees get pushed to burnout to satisfy ambitions. Though it will be fair to mention, that there are still people that are doing good things (like those who introduced well-being days off).

Thank you for leaving your review and feedback. We are sorry to hear that your journey with us has left you feeling this way. We’re constantly checking with our team as to what they tell us is working and what is not. As well as our internal surveys, our Employee Committee meets regularly with senior management to address how we can deliver a world-class working experience to our people. As a direct result of that, we’ve introduced a number of initiatives, these include additional health days, a celebration day, and improvements to our learning budget and system. We’re working on providing better mental health assistance, and a number of other team-led programs. We appreciate that Prinitfy is a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The world economy has changed dramatically for everyone in the last 12 months, and we as a business owe it to our team and our customers to adapt to those changes. Strategy updates happen every month at our all-hands meetings and are developed in close cooperation with our research team. We understand from your feedback that this information was not conveyed well enough, we’d be really appreciative if you would let us know more details about your experience, you can email your HR representative at any time. Thank you again for your feedback and best of luck in your future journey.

positive overshadow negatives... for now

Pros

- Printify is a successful company and you will learn a lot here! Definitely won't hurt your resume. Unfortunately, I think that the success of the company is also the main reason why most of the negatives won't change in the nearest future. - They compensate you really well. It's honestly a sin not to take advantage of all the benefits available (above industry average salary, free gym with trainers, quality massages at discount rates, lunch money, snacks & food at the office, decent learning budget, top-notch insurance, etc.). You might even bag a decent jackpot from the stock options if you hang around for long enough. - Great opportunity to stay in sync with the latest trends in the industry, tech and startup environment in general. - Fun, smart and mostly positive colleagues to hang around with

Cons

- Current management seems to be generally out of touch. It feels like some people from the management team are just taking advantage of their position to benefit themselves directly as much as possible. There seems to be a general lack of understanding of the business and the industry. No one seems to be holding them accountable. - Cross-team projects are usually a hot mess. The team is placed all around the globe, so this should not be a surprise. Constant misalignments, accidental ingoring of key stakeholders in decision making, silo communication really sucks the energy from everyone involved and just raises tension. - Some people are really high on the Printify kool-aid. 'best company ever', 'I would never leave', etc. For most of these people their only work experience is Printify... - Potentially self inflicting burnout cultivating work environment. Flexible work hours, opened office 24/7, constant perks at the office, etc. As long as you do your job - we'll take care of you mentality. It's the modern way to appease young people and lure them in, but it is also very dangerous for those who lack self discipline and principles to establish work-life balance routine. As a result, 12 hour days at the office, burnouts, working on weekends, vacation days and sick leaves is considered normal. It is truly sad and unfortunate to see how your peers turn to shells of themselves without any other fulfilment in their lives other than their job. - CEO gives a vibe that he is willingly ignorant and borderline delusional visionary, while actually being totally aware of everything around him. Seems like he is playing some sort of a character. Setting made up goals with very limited supporting information. Of course, if you shoot for the Sun, but end up on Mars, it is still a success. Asking for impossible is what drives innovation and creative thinking, and that's OK. Being delusional, ignorant and short-sighted is NOT OK. - Limited career development opportunities once you hit mid-management level. Seems like people just get stuck there and can't seem to get any higher than that. Printify will rather hire an outsider who has no clue what the business is or how it operates to lead a strategically important project. In reality, these outside hirees rarely stick around and even smaller portion of them deliver meaningful results.

Thank you for your review! We’ve put a lot of work into designing a well rounded benefits package, thanks for pointing it out and also drawing attention to where we still have work to do. We recognize that ensuring transparency and alignment across the globe and teams is an ongoing challenge, especially considering we’ve more than doubled in size over the past 2 years and also introduced a hybrid work environment. That is why we are revamping our existing internal communication as well as introducing several new internal communications initiatives that are better suited to a team of our growth and size. We support the growth of our people and actually prefer to promote from within. This year alone, 25% of our new hires have been internal. However, the best fit is always a priority, and so we’ve added key strategic leaders with broad global experience, bringing valuable skills to our top management team to help us realize our ambitious goals. At Printify, a core value is to strive for excellence. We want people to do their best, and we also want people to feel at their best. While we do already offer a wide scope of benefits to ensure our talented team is well supported, we also admit self-inflicted burnout can be a real risk for high-performing team members in a fast-moving environment. Wellbeing is a key focus area for us this year and our goal is to have an ongoing discussion and deliver programs that will mean we prevent more and react less. We’ve already introduced improved wellbeing policies such as unlimited health leave, wellbeing days and expanded health benefits. We’re planning dedicated events throughout the year and continue to measure how we’re doing through engagement and pulse surveys. We also work closely together with our internal employee committee to be able to recognize and address concerns as they appear. We would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your concerns further. If you are open to sharing them with us, we encourage you to approach your direct manager at Printify or anyone from the HR team, or alternatively, share them with the Employee Committee.
