Pros

I really enjoyed starting my legal career at Protect/Promote PT. I had just completed my first year of law school and wanted to go home to my home town for the summer. Though I was living out of state, they took a chance on me that was beneficial for all parties. The Executive Director was always kind to me and provided for a very flexible schedule, which was much needed since i had two summer internships. Almost immediately upon starting, I was given opportunities to work with outside counsel and felt like my work was truly valued by everyone. I ended up continuing to work with Promote/Protect PT during my last two years of law school until I had to stop all employment to study for the bar exam. The Executive Director has, to this day, graciously continued to provide references for me. I also enjoyed attending community events and learned a lot about government and non-profit law.

Cons

The job can be challenging and frustrating at times, but for me, it was always because we were challenging a government authority. But people who want accountability are often faced with this experience. If the the community was properly being taken care of (and not taken advantage of by oil companies), Protect/Promote PT may not exist. Any type of community organization will often face similar challenges.

Pros

Protect PT is a great place to work. I’ve only worked here since February but I feel like I have made a positive difference in people’s lives. There are a lot of places that I’ve worked or even volunteered where I’ve felt like I didn’t have much of a positive impact on people’s lives. Here I always feel like what I do here matters, and I make a positive impact on people’s lives everyday. We get wins all of the time which is very different to many organizations where you have to give up an arm or a leg just to see a return on the investment of your time in change in people’s lives. Everyone here is extremely friendly and passionate about what they do. I am autistic and have ADHD and I feel like I have been very much included and the culture of the workplace is one where we build each other up instead of tearing each other down. Our executive director Gillian is great. She puts so much work, heart and soul into this organization. She is very extremely friendly, and like everyone else here very knowledgeable. She tries her best to be inclusive of all people and tries to work in all employees schedules and priorities and includes everyone's ideas in the organization's planning. Here we have the option to work from home and we are also paid really well, with my position being paid $40,000-$44,000, which is a lot for a small environmental nonprofit. Some people on here have said she is a micromanager however she is only a micromanager if you consider any good leader to be a micromanager, any good leader has a propensity to check to make sure things are done and an opinion on how they’d rather it should be done. And if you mean than that sure, but Gillian is also very forgiving and as long as its done she doesn’t care so much how its done. I think Gillian is a very kind and very passionate leader and I’ve never had a bad experience with her.

Cons

I really don't have any complaints.
