Pros

It's a shame to see a company with great potential being stagnant under a really, really bad management. I worked here 2 years, it's a good place to work on your speed and sharpen your abilities, but for sure not a place to stay. You get a staff discount, it's a pro for sure even though almost every company out there offers discounts to employees. Usually you're surrounded by good individuals, so you get to learn from others, shame that the turnover is very high.

Cons

First of all, I would like to point out that all the 5 star reviews here are presumably fake. Why? They are exactly the same style of the ones that the CMO wanted to see on the website or on Amazon. On many occasions I have been asked to leave whatever I was doing to publish fake reviews. And yes, that's why there are a bunch of 1-2 star reviews (legitimate) and another bunch of 5 (fake ones), no middle numbers. Also the poor reviews are articulated and published randomly, the 5 star ones are published all on the same day, what a coincidence right? This is my humble opinion, but the management is a disgrace. The CEO is a nice guy, although stubborn and very close to innovation, unless is his own idea. However still today I do not understand why he keeps his CMO in such high consideration. She wants simply to be everywhere in the decision making, she wants to micromanage everything to the point that everything else is delayed. Resulting in you being forced to do extra time, otherwise you are not part of The Protein Work culture and family, bringing your self-confidence down at every chance. I never ever had a chance to see her admitting a mistake, even if there were plenty under the sunlight. I am sorry to reiterate this but I don't see the CMO there as a leader, on my opinion she wants to do everything and she ends up messing a lot of things up and preventing you from doing a your job, and later of course accusing you to have wasted time. Another point that I felt, and here I speak for myself is that you can clearly see that she has preferences on people, especially if you are a native, if you are from abroad you have less chances to enter her circle of favourites. I saw her in many occasion using a softer tone on English personnel and much different tone on foreigners. And this reflects on everything, of course she markets this as cultural differences. Been in many companies now and this is the only issue I had with "cultural differences" whatever that means. I remember I sent an email to get a reference and still today I am waiting for the reply, I guess somebody is still angry that I said out loud what could have been improved when I handed my resignation over. But this is what you get, an environment in which this deaf management is unable to listen to its own employees, making effective communication virtually impossible. An environment in which even a review after you left seems too much to ask. I mean, that says it all on my opinion. It's definitely a nice environment if you enter the grace of the CMO, I have seeing people climbing the ladder quickly, otherwise prepare to be out of there soon, willingly or not because on one hand you'll be frustrated and working like hell, on the other hand the CMO will make your working life impossible and/or miserable. (Example? Ok, I have been hired as a highly skilled worker, ended up in a couple of occasions doing chores around the office). Not mentioning the WhatsApp groups, ringing day and night, no company phones whatsoever, so expect to use your personal phone and silence the group every night, like I did. Best thing that happened to me is that I have been kicked out from the group 2 minutes after I left the office on my last day. Trust is a rare beast, for sure you won’t find it at TPW. My honest advice is avoid this place unless you are desperate for a job, you really like the fitness industry or you want to see how things should not be done. If you accept a job there then good luck keeping your blood pressure low and your self-esteem high.

Pros

Staff discount but honestly you would expect that. Some of the people who work there are nice but don’t stay around long enough

Cons

Where do I start. Whatever they promise you when accepting the job, forget it. 6 people have either left or been let go in the past few months, 3 of which were senior members of the team. 90% of people who join don’t last their probation. They use predominantly interns either without paying them or paying a small fee each month on the basis that they will gain experience for 6 months but in reality they use them as workers and made to do the labour intensive boring tasks or the people they report into get them to do the work they should be doing. Every intern I spoke to hated it. During all the lockdowns except the last all the marketing team were sent an email telling them they can choose to work from home but doing so would impact their careers (in a nice way saying you need to work in the office and if you don’t you will be treated less better then others) even though it was instructed by the government to work from home. Don’t believe the positive reviews the CMO asked her team to put positive reviews on Glass Door because of the previous bad ones. (Notice 4 positive review in one day) Everything is done on a penny pinching budget but they want to scale the business to achieve multiple millions in turnover. Every expense has to be signed off and you don’t have any control. The CEO doesn’t really get involved in marketing which is the worst team to be on and probably doesn’t realise how bad things are. The CMO has all the control, nothing happens without their say so. The CMO decides who you can hire, which software you can use, who you can work with. People are put in charge of “teams” but in reality the have to go to the CMO in relation to anything to do with their team. If the CMO doesn’t like someone they are gone. In the words of the CMO - “ if people want to leave let them leave I’m not begging” The C Level team doesn’t have a problem emailing at night or the weekend and still expecting a reply. If you don’t reply even when you’re on holiday they will make it clear that they are not happy. CMO will ask the same question multiple times and still not understand the answer bordering on ridiculous. Meetings at 7am or 7pm are normal. Not getting replies to simple things from the main C Level team is very normal, but if they message you they expect a reply straight away. The C Level team has unfortunately groomed people to work 24/7) and are a clique. Working at 6am is praised as a good thing btw. Their excuse when someone leaves is they are not a culture fit but in reality only they are part of the culture they describe. In the office if you go out for lunch for an hour you get dirty looks (you get an hour) people are scared so eat at their desk. It’s a horrible atmosphere, people don’t speak to each other, even international interns are shocked and asked me of this normal for UK businesses. They try to launch new brands but don’t have the main brand or team in check so it’s no surprise the new brands do not do well. All projects relate back to the CEO and CMO and guess what every project had been badly behind schedule or delayed and they try to blame the teams but in all honesty it is them. 90% of the marketing team are looking for new jobs, the asia team has pretty much all left and the internal tech team are all but gone. I could go on but actually think this is important information for the current investors who are not aware of how bad things are plus people who are looking to join. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Pros

Staff discount is amazing The people there are some of the best in their field Really try to be best in class/first in market to do things

Cons

The first thing...they don't want to have an environment like THG/MP, however, everything is going in the way to make it worse. Micro-managing CMO who can't let go and wants to be involved in EVERYTHING, this is not an exaggeration, whatever level, whatever it is, needs to go through CMO. There has started to become a blame culture. Long hours, little recognition. Big pro is that the people are some of the best in their field, and that is true, but the negative to that is that most of them are being held back. They can't really "open up" due to the super reactive nature. One less than normal hour/day ruins the month, everything is stopped. Demoralising. The culture could be great, but the pressure to work nights and weekends will never build a good culture. The WhatsApp groups....all of them...it is crazy the amount they have. There is no let up. Nights, weekends, annual leave, you name it there is always a question or analysis to do. C-level ask these, and expect a response no matter what time. I can't stress enough how many WhatsApp groups people are in. The feeling of exhaustion, being drained and "beat up" is common. Very little recognition throughout all the teams. Blame culture is massive - it's never their fault. But if you do put your hands up and admit it was, they don't forget, it is always brought up when things going well to, what I would say is to "not get above your station". It's common to have work which is directly related to you to be discussed elsewhere, and new actions undertaken. Work/life balance is non-existent.
