Pros

Remote work is the standard full time norm.

Cons

CEO cultures an environment of fear, hostility and uncertainty. Massive turnover. Massive revenue losses. CEO often suggests firing entire departments and outsourcing, often on a whim.

Pros

I don't work there anymore.

Cons

If the CEO didn't have such a well-trimmed beard he'd have no talent or marketable skills at all. The company structure looks like a palm tree with so many VPs and "Directors of" uselessly flapping around in the breeze while a large time of underpaid editorial workers actually do what needs to be done. The CEO will intimidate you, make threats, change his mind regularly, and all around show himself to be as incompetent as can be. He says he's written a series of "best-selling" novels despite there being no way to find any organization that has actually rated them. You won't get a byline. Everything is ghost written/edited. You can't build a portfolio here or get clips. There is no reason for you to come here. You'll make more money at your local burger king than you will here.

Good People, Disaster Leadership

Pros

Fully remote, and super flexible in that regard.

Cons

This company is run by flighty, money-hungry, short-sighted people who will run you into the ground. Goals are set arbitrarily and change constantly, you are so concerned about making it look like you're getting enough done to appease higher ups, you can't do meaningful work. This is a place to get a paycheck, not build a career. People are frequently blindsided and fired with no real justification, especially freelancers. The higher you go up the ladder, the worse it gets; there is only so much that anyone can do to make it better when leadership has everyone walking on eggshells constantly - coworkers afraid to hold conversations about leadership should tell you all you need to hear. Terrible compensation (I moved up twice, no raises, and made 20K under the industry average for this position), no concern for fostering good relationships with the employees they do have, it's a literal trainwreck. This place has the most toxic culture I've ever experienced and you'd be better off doing literally anything else.
