Shocking bullying culture

Pros

Weekends off or used to be. Medical insurance offered

Cons

Shocking bullying culture. Senior management set unrealistic goals and think they can get their teams to achieve it by bullying/insulting employees. Management doesn't know what they want. One day goal is a. The other day it changes to b. It is common for department heads to scream, insult and abuse their teams, many times publicly. Sexist remarks are made at women employees. Employees made to work till late at night you have to beg for even sick leave. So many complaints go to HR but the HR takes side of management and bullies employees to take back their complaints or lose their jobs. No action is taken against harassment of women. It is ok to make bad comments at women. You have to suffer silently if you want your job or quit. Attrition is very high because people quit under such bullying. Join only if you are desperate for a job.

Pros

Salary on time. 150 year old legacy

Cons

There is a widespread bully culture in Rics. They boast a lot about ethics and standards. Irony is they have no ethics of their own. Senior management bullies junior employees really bad and nobody seems to think of this as a problem. Talent is not valued here. There is rampant favouritism and bias. It is a confused organisation and they don't know where they are headed. No career growth possible here. Don't join it if you are looking for career growth

Thank you for your feedback. We do not tolerate any form of bullying, but can only deal with such issues if we’re aware of them, and encourage our employees to report such matters. Though you have left RICS, I would greatly appreciate further information on your experience here and invite you to please contact me at feedback@rics.org for a confidential discussion. Many thanks for your insights about your time at RICS. As we go through a period of unprecedented change at RICS in response to the challenges brought by COVID-19, and as part of our goal to become a fit-for-purpose 21st century professional body, we recognise the need for culture change. We are moving towards a high support/high challenge culture, where setting stretching and clear objectives becomes the norm while offering coaching and feedback to all employees to ensure they can achieve their best work. We are reviewing our incentive and reward plan and at the same time we are investing in a management capability programme “Managing with Purpose” in order to support managers in carrying out their role. The programme focuses on key skills and effective empathetic leadership. We welcome all feedback as we endeavour to modernise the organisation and create a culture that is fully supportive whilst remaining challenging and rewarding for all.
