The work environment was toxic, with employees often made to feel guilty for taking time off. The workload was excessive for one person, and there was a significant lack of training. My role was new and poorly structured, presented as an opportunity to "do with it what you want," but any personal initiative was stifled. The CEO and owner frequently made uncomfortable comments such as "I pay your wages." Feedback was solicited but never acted upon. The HR department consisted of one individual with a long-term relationship with the owner, creating a biased and untrustworthy environment for raising concerns. Remote work was discouraged due to a lack of trust in employees. Senior management often spoke poorly of current and former employees, demonstrating an unwillingness to accept feedback and make necessary changes. The pay was at the lower end for the job role, and employees were expected to stay late unpaid, with on-time departures viewed negatively. The company claimed to be a family, but this only applied in ways that suited them, not the employees. Many staff members expressed their dissatisfaction and willingness to leave if better opportunities arose, indicating long-standing issues. From my short time there, it was evident that employee unhappiness was widespread, raising red flags. Improved staff retention would be possible if they listened to their employees. I was there for less than a year but this was due to the sheer misery i felt working here.
