Pros

I tried to think of one pro, and it was the team I worked with at the time.

Cons

Look at all the other reviews - there are common threads. It is a cesspool where your spirit will go to die. -If you have a pet, you dont get any free bags of food until you hit 6 months; which hardly anyone hits because they will fire you/you'll quit before then. -They will open new stores and NOT increase support-level staff and then fire/complain why the support-level staff can't keep up. -Your creativity will not be rewarded. -Don't expect work/life balance. There is none. -If you're a young woman, you want to stay away from here, especially if you want to start a family. -Being in the head office, we saw turn over like no ones business, especially in the warehouse. People will drop the job literally after a few days. -The owner's father (Ren himself) retired a long time ago and gave the reigns over to his son. That man cares more about staff he doesn't even have than the current CEO, who really only cares about profits and has no idea how to run a business. -The owner will humiliate you in front of the entire office if you walk in 1 minute late. I wish I was joking. Even if it's the only time you've ever been late, he will scream at you with the door wide open. It's harassment. -Blame Game central. -There is a facade of comradery, but everyone is miserable. I wondered why I saw no one smiling when I had my walk around on the first day. Didn't take me long to figure out. -Despite having excellent numbers and performance, they can (and do) fire staff all the time for no reason. If you make the CEO angry (you can do this by breathing the wrong way) you can expect to be gone, but he'll be a coward and not be in the office the day his VP does the dirty work. -Morale is never high. -Floor staff in the stores are treated like absolute dirt and work insanely hard to meet the ridiculously unrealistic targets the vp's set

Pros

The department I was in was forced to banned together for survival and to encourage each other to not commit suicide.

Cons

If you want to be stalked by receptionists on your (shunned upon) 15 minute breaks, be forced to do data-entry disregarding the position you were originally hired for, and be told by management that working together is considered "tribal work flow" and they don't support it - get your resume in ASAP! I worked at Ren's for 10, long months. I saw so many people come and go, heard so many idiotic conversations that made me V8 myself, and probably lost majority of my confidence and work skills. If you are a logical person who enjoys developing and creating work based on intelligence - you will die here. And when you die there, they'll be poking your dead body asking if you're done your next project that is due in three months because they "want to ship it out now to create hype." "This is a waste of my time" is something you'll hear often from fellow employees. You'll be constantly fixing other peoples mistakes, forever. There will never be enough employees to fix them - not necessarily because the mistakes are so bad (although they are) but because they will never hire enough people. They're just too cheap. You are expected to be: Customer Service Rep, Event Co-ordinator, Project Co-ordinator, Data-Entry Assistant, Image Editor, Analyst and Janitor (yes, Janitor. Be ready for Kitchen duties!). I almost forgot - you can also add Babysitter to your resume, as you will be constantly following management around, adding things to their calendar and fixing their mistakes. And if you're thinking, "well, that'll gain me experience." Maybe. But be prepared to work with upper-management one-on-one as they dabble into your projects because they are also VP's, Graphic Designer Experts and Social Media Gurus. Your work will soon turn into a horrendous amount of clip-art, ugly text, paw prints and grammatical errors. Clashing colours and SALE SALE SALE will also make many, many appearances on your work. So you might as well kiss your future Portfolio goodbye. And a side note: be prepared to pick up dogs feces and/or vomit on the office floor. Even if it's not your dog, you'll be scolded for not "assisting in the clean-up." Really? Truly, when I thought, in many different situations,"oh no - management will be fine. They won't react this way or ask me to do this. They will be logical, there's no way." Low and behold - they trumped me every, single, time. It was actually unreal. Some real Discovery Channel stuff. Expect the worst - because it really will happen.

Needs to better support employees

Pros

You CAN grow if you dedicate yourself. I went from being a store employee to the head office with two job changes (promotions?) within a year. They company overall is a great idea with multiple facets to everything pet related.

Cons

So so many cons. The management is terrible and the communication between management is even worse. They don't know what they want but expect you to. They frown on you taking breaks and lunch, and would rather pay out your vacation than ever let you take it. Long awful hours without recognition. It's also a place where if you speak your mind (even if it's to point out something that is completely obvious) you will be fired. I watched people get fired for just doing their underpaid job. They also fired my manager and expected our team to fill in the gaps, without a pay increase, without notice. It's a good temporary job, but not a career place.
