Pros

None at this time. Writing on behalf of someone I know and what they went through.

Cons

Growth here is pretty limited, and when you ask about promotions, you tend to get the runaround instead of clear answers. It can feel like you’re working toward something that never actually materializes. There’s also a big disconnect between what’s expected and what you’re paid. Admin assistants are often doing executive assistant–level work without the title or compensation to match. The environment can be very critical. Small, fixable mistakes are remembered and held against you, while similar mistakes from leadership don’t seem to be treated the same way. It creates a double standard where you’re expected to be perfect, even though no one else is. HR support hasn’t always felt consistent or reliable, especially when it comes to policies or how situations are handled. That lack of clarity can make it hard to feel fully supported. There’s also a strong focus on degrees over real-world experience, which can feel discouraging if you’ve proven yourself through actual work. Management styles really depend on who you work with. Some are supportive, but others lean heavily into micromanagement. In certain cases, it’s created high turnover on teams, which says a lot. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this role for someone looking to grow, feel supported, or be fairly compensated for the level of work expected.
