Pros

The only good reason I could think of is that one can learn how to deal with difficult obstinate management. Two cups of coffee/tea.

Cons

i will try to present an unbiased impersonal review of what it is like to work here. The company is now called SD2 labs and also, SD Squared Labs. It’s also the parent company of Shoto, and the review here equally applies to Shoto. I had a brief stint here. The employees here live in constant fear of losing their jobs. Termination at SD2 Labs/ SD Squared is sudden, and full of personal insults, and is usually without a compensation. As far as it has been observed, its a culture of hire and fire, both at SD2/SD Squared and Shoto. People are hired when they get a project, and fired within months after the project finishes. The number of people who have been here for over a year is very very low. Its very common to see new faces, only to see them disappear soon. The average employee lifecycle here is under 6 months, and therefore, incentives like ESOPs are never availed coz employees are either fired abruptly after the work is done, or they quit on their own. The environment is toxic and counter productive making it nearly impossible to enjoy your work. The management especially the CEO keeps insulting and offending people all the time. They have an intangible leave policy of unlimited leaves, which in effect means you virtually don’t get any leaves, irrespective of how seriously you need it, coz they never approve any leaves. There were instances when people were warned about a 5x deduction from their monthly salary coz they had to take a leave. An employee is allowed a maximum of two cups of either tea or coffee everyday. Racism is very pronounced here, when you get to work with your US counterparts, Indian employees are mistreated and misbehaved with all the time. They are treated like slaves, and I have seen people working non stop for over 2-3 days, without any sleep, or tea/coffee to stay awake, only to invariably face the CEO’s wrath. The kind of language he uses in scrums is offensive and shocking, and almost everyday he says something that he can be sued for. Employees feel greatly devalued leading a corrupted professional as well as personal lives. For all intents, employees are expected to be available 24/7 for work. Its nearly impossible to talk sense into the CEO, since he does not listen to anyone. He has been trying to develop an in house app called Shoto for over 4 years now. But its a complete failure, solely attributed to a sycophantic CEO, who does not know how to keep his employees happy, and work professionally with colleagues. He is devoid of any form of leadership, does not know how to motivate, or lead the way, but is adept at ensuring that his employees are dehumanized and derided. He never trusts his employees. Appraisals are rarely given and they never exceed 7-8% even if you have been slogging your guts out all day and night. With all the false promises they make when they want to get the work done, they have a carrot-stick approach towards their employees. I joined the company, and I regard it as one of the worst mistakes that I ever committed which led to a colossal waste of my time, energy, career, peace, happiness and general well-being.

Pros

Nothing i can think of.

Cons

Everything 1. Mismanagement due to lack of experience and no processes 2. No person here wants to learn and grow. The environment is negative. People want to stay where they are and stay incompetent. 3. None of the managers have a management degree and don't even want to learn better management. Moreover their experience level is not even 3-4 years. Who gives a managerial position without experience ? Well this organisation can if are good at flattery. 4. Their hiring process has become so pathetic, that due to the insecurities of the upper management, they hire people even less knowledgeable than they are so that nobody else can take their position. 5. Their attrition rate is so high because they do not bother about the happiness of their existing employees. They can give good money to people who are new joiners but they are not willing to give a good increment to their existing employees to retain them. 6. No feedback system. The owner is not aware of what's happening in the organisation and is not even bothered. He treats employees like slaves. He thinks they are machines who can work 24/7 and he can buy new machines anytime he wishes. 7. Some members are always on a vacation. Never there when needed but the power remains with them and thus the rest of the management is crippled because of their absence in times of need. 8. All the good rated reviews here are a part of their weekly update where they try to convince employees to put a fake positive review.

Dear Fellow Colleague (I assume you are still working with us), Thank you for your feedback - I'm sure you have seen over the last couple of weeks I've been very very vocal about making sure we get feedback from everyone and in a way that allows us to question, understand and improve. This is a big step I hope you believe in trying to improve the overall culture and make us a fantastic place to work - it's my goal to make sure you are convinced. I do not for a second think we have every process buttoned down; we have been working to document, improve and streamline this to ensure that things either affect our team or our customers are robustly solved. I am surprised you mention that no-one wants to learn and grow - we run a masterclass frequently and those that want to learn and grow attend this. I think we can do a much better job at creating more peer to peer opportunities to learn as well as a formal learning program much like we did to train people in Excel, or to let them take English Classes in Office Hours so that they can better improve their communication. We have promoted young, aspiring and dedicated members of the team into positions that are probably above their current experience; but well within their punching range. It comes from a belief that they can do more; I definitely agree that we should be doing more to hand hold and train them. The average quality of our engineering has increased by an order of magnitude, if you think we are not hiring people because folks who are screening are threatened then you must let us know and we will make sure we bring all the stakeholders to the right place - that hiring people better than you is the best thing you can do for yourself. If anything in the last 4-5 months we have made massive strides in trying to makes people happy - more celebrations, more events and more cheer - I don't think we have nailed the perfect formula. But if you look at our Quarter on Quarter Attrition we have brought this down from 35% to 10% - that is now well below the average for any tech company. Similarly our YoY increments are higher this year than any year before; we've also capped the amount we pay new joining team members to be no more than 15/20%. Feedback system is being put in place - there is no "owner" but rather a management team and we welcome all the feedback that has steadily started coming - and we are rolling out 1:1 interviews with me next week, a private feedback loop so that you can reach out whenever you have a problem or a concern. I absolutely do not think anyone is a machine (maybe one person, that would be me) - maybe you've not noticed that I join 4am, 6am, 2am, 11pm calls on an almost regular basis and infact ensure calls are setup for everyone's convenience not just mine. As far as the new machine - I've got a 3 yr old Macbook I bought on Ebay - so clearly there is a little misunderstanding. The only thing new is a screen to plug it into! No-one is always on vacation - some of the senior team work whilst studying for exams and so they need to be in and out. Some are remote so they are not in the office and others have calls that are in the middle of the night. As you know we try to avoid a butt on seat culture - but we will be making active strides in the coming weeks to ensure create PAT - Predictability, Accountability and Transparency. Considering its anonymous and given that we have never paid anyone - we simply ask our teams to write what they think - if you notice even the good reviews - there is constructive feedback given in them. I'm sorry you feel like you are banging your head against the wall - I promise you that is not the intention - why not pop me an email - and let me know what we can do better and I'll get on to it. Pros

Are there any? Yes One... there a brewery at ground floor which can be a stress re-leaver, inside organization... i CANNOT think of ANYTHING... NOTHING.... which can be considered as a Pros for SD2 Labs

Cons

So I joined this organization with complete enthusiasm, and looking at all the credentials they present on their website.... *Amazon partners* *Global Presence* *AWS Experts* ....... like REALLLYYYY???? there a bunch of "goons" running this organization, close to 60 people are in India and the whole company is run by a person who sees no difference between a stray dog or rag picker or a thief or a Software Developer or a Manager or pantry boy... he treats everyone equally .. like absolutely ZILCH... you go to anyone's system in the organization and they are looking for a job... EVERY SINGLE PERSON... People have such fear of getting a pink slip that they slog themselves over night for the stupid commitments that CEO does to its "hardly any clients", and make PMs and developers work over nights and then throw them out of organization for siilliest of their mistakes... As per SD2, you are only allowed to commit a mistake once, Second mistake you are outta company.... They will tell employees - neither your work is good nor your face, get out... such big Racists they are... Indian employees are just labor for them..... CEO and all top mgmt people are soo high on ego that they cant look down and see what their employees are going through... Salaries get credited generally 10-15 days late, (Reason is that owner buys an accommodation abroad, hence company has no money).. I haven't met even a single happy person here... Highest vintage period here would be 1 year for someone who has some senses in place... For 60 people there is 1 washroom and 1 other to be used only by senior people. They pay higher than industry standards so that you are unable to get a job/package outside... Work life balance is always on a toss here. Company has no real business proposition...and its all a bubble... all these good reviews here are being made to be written by company HRs and employees forcefully.... Please think a thousand times before joining this organization, dont go on the infrastructure they have think think think and even after that DON'T join .....
