Not what it used to be.

Pros

Fortunately Sematech still looks good on your resume. Many dedicated and culturally diverse team members, although fewer over time.

Cons

At one time Sematech was among the electronics industry's best for comprehensive benefits and working culture, Sadly, that is not the case today, as the company has been absorbed into SUNY/CNSE and as a result pay scales and benefits have been reduced to below industry standard levels. Management operates from the top down on fear and intimidation, rather than encouragement and reward. Morale has never been lower, and many good people are leaving for better better pay and improved job satisfaction. If you really have your heart set on living and working in the snow belt GlobalFoundries is a much better option - just ask any of the ex-sematech staff who've made the move.

Pros

Good salary for the area for sure. Good industry

Cons

Since the new CEO, Ron Goldblatt has taken over...He has taken the company down to the ground. He hired his friends from his previous job for 6 figure salaries, and decided to terminate all the previous higher management. Referral bonus went into his pocket. Removed all the good benefits: no more working from home, flexible time and even decided to cheap out on health insurance. Outsourcing all of the support and technical positions to CNSE slowly, aka "Reverse Assignee" positions. Even decided to hire his own favorite person as HR so he can treat them as his puppet. All the management members are his puppets. The company head count used to be well over 150, now it is almost under 100 employees, most of them un-satisfied and already looking for jobs. During company meetings an employee asks a questions, he makes fun of them and shuts them up, he acts as a bully. For many years many employees were promised room for growth, but got nothing except more managers above them..Inexperienced retired old white males...There is no culture anymore in the company. You have to be at your desk from 8-5, and if noticed not there..you get yelled at or tracked down...Feels like you are back in 1st grade.

Pros

Let's appreciate the frustration and emotions expressed in many of these reviews, but let's also look at some realities here: 1) If you got laid off following the advent of Ron Goldblatt and subsequent assimilation into SUNY, you're one of the lucky ones! You probably worked there during the good years, and you were a valued member of a respected organization that had industry-wide impact. Be thankful for the experience, and proud of it. 2) If you're still there you don't have to work very hard... just smile a lot, pretend you're drinking the Kool-Aid, and act like you're extremely grateful for the opportunity. Sorry about the pay cuts and reduced benefits... Don't forget that you do have flexible working hours - simply show up before the C-suite gang and don't leave until they've gone home for the day. 3) If you're thinking about working at sematech, fuggedaboudit! They're not growing and won't be hiring. The sad fact is they only add an occasional patronage position as directed by their SUNY Poly and NYS handlers, and those individuals are pre-selected by Ron Goldblatt and his Master, Dr K.
