Pros

I legitimately can't write five positive words.

Cons

While this company has a good product concept, this is a career misstep for most jobseekers, who will likely dismiss red flags as quirks of startup culture. The "core values" required to work here are straight from Cults 101. Consider your lunch, work habits, residence, disposable income, hairstyle, and privacy negotiable (read: up for dictation). The CEO (an Elizabeth Holmes type) has a "who will they believe, me or you?" attitude, praises slight-of-hand from his best minions, and regards the letter of the law as beneath him and open to interpretation. This is not a comfortable place to work. But if you must: collect your paycheck, avoid the Kool-Aid, and keep browsing for your next gig.

Our product is past the concept phase as it is being installed on U.S. Military bases. As for the core values being cult-like, our core values are self-discipline, teamwork, quality, and self-improvement, which aren’t typical for cults. If we are labeled as a cult because we are a team working extremely hard to prevent PFAS pollution by replacing AFFF fire protection systems with clean fire protection, we agree with the cult label. As for our management's integrity and ethics, the management culture might be direct, resulting in tough love at times, but integrity and ethics are non-negotiable at Safespill. This is probably why so many military veterans are attracted to work at Safespill. We agree that this is not a comfortable place to work. Safespill is not meant to be a comfortable place to work. It is a place where we expect a lot from our team, and we push people outside of their comfort zone to grow within the company. We have many team members that have grown exponentially since they have started and come to work with a smile on their face every day. o Justin Maunz, People Operations Manager at Safespill

Pros

The other review is spot on.

Cons

This is a very strange place to work. The culture is overwhelming and bordering on toxic with little to no infrastructure. There is no middle ground. Every aspect of your daily life is no longer your own and open for dictation. You will be thrown into situations with little to no training. It is not you. If you are not freebasing the Kool-Aid or or at least pretending to, this place is not for you.

As a growing startup, we occur a lot of growing pains, and therefore, the infrastructure of certain processes is sometimes lacking until we put it in place. Fortunately, we are getting better every day. We enjoy being challenged, and having a self-starter problem-solving mentality will always be part of what we look for in team members. o Justin Maunz, People Operations Manager at Safespill

Pros

Only the pay. Nothing else.

Cons

I will keep this to just 5 bullet points. Could be much more. -If you don't think the CEO is the world's smartest man, leave. Everyone here hangs on to his words like gospel and you are expected to do the same. -Note how they right about how "successful" they are under every negative review. Not particularly true and also notes to their character. -Time for family or kids? No. If you don't live and breath Safespill consider yourself fired. -The blame game is the only way to survive. -Notice how most of the positive reviews are from current employees and from the October area. Its like they noticed their 2 star rating was hurting their ability to get qualified candidates. What I am saying is, if you are fresh out of college and need a job this will do. If you have any other options, please run. This place is the greater of 2 evils.

To start, thank you for your feedback from your experience. As we continuously grow with an increasing number of incoming projects, it’s important to us that our team can grow with us, which means their feedback is important. I’ll touch on your points to shed some light from another internal perspective: o Many team members, including myself, have dealt with cancer within our lives while even losing family. It is a family-altering disease, and not only is what we are doing important for the environment, but it’s protecting our nation’s military, their health, and their futures. That is a serious responsibility and job to do, and the people on the team seem to know how motivating and important that is, especially being the only current environmentally safe solution on the market. o Work/life balance and “blame”: I am sorry you felt this way during your time with us. Self-discipline to meet your priorities and deadlines and using your team when you think you are time-crunched typically has resulted in success at Safespill. Family is ultimately your backbone of support, and we want you at your best and will support you to manage time with your family. This also goes for taking responsibility for your actions rather than blaming, which will inevitably lead to self-improvement (one of our core values). o We do suggest current team members leave a review if they feel inclined to do so to give authentic insight to potential team members on what it is like at Safespill, just as any other company does. There is no problem attracting qualified candidates to join the team as winners identify with other winners, and we have seen the excitement to be a part of the culture and the numerous opportunities to grow and learn. -Justin Maunz, People Operations Manager
