Culture change

Pros

The proposition of SIG is 'fact based consultancy'. SIG consultants use an in-house developed toolkit to analyse the source code of client software systems and translate raw measurements into actionable advice to senior management. As such consultants encounter large numbers of companies, systems and technologies (programming languages) which enables them to become software experts with a broad view.

Cons

The company was taken over by outside investors one year ago. Last summer the new owners fired the entire upper management after which they inserted themselves (and their friends from previous takeovers) as the new upper and middle management. This and the accompanying strategy change ('exponential growth') has resulted in a dramatic culture change. People who have been working there for years are leaving in droves.

Bad management, strong customer base

Pros

Good location, much freedom and flexibility. The customer base is impressive, and SIG deliver real value to its customer thanks to excellent management consultants.

Cons

The management is abysmal. Lots of politics and favoritism, bad salary level, lack of strategy (or confused one, when present). Recent influx of hires have made the outlook very bad (they fail to hit targets and bonuses where reduced/delayed, creating much anger). Lunch is not included.

Recent take over

Pros

Specialists in their field that know what they are talking about.

Cons

The SIG employees used to belong to the top of the market as far as code and software quality was concerned. With the recent take over, another breed of people is entering the company. The foreign subsidiaries are led by very incapable MD's. Unless you are a former employee, or friend, of the investors, you can put your career on hold for quite some time.
