Pros

Nice, open, small dog friendly offices. Clean lunchroom and bathrooms. Company is growing.

Cons

Don't accept a job with this company. The turnover is very high, with good reason. There are a lot of family members working in the business which means office politics are intense and disruptive. (Family members tend to be good at one thing and very bad at all the rest. They make up for their ineffectiveness by reporting to the owner and what they report often is untrue.) Company hires very young people whom they can pay low wages to. Training is non-existent leading to mistakes and subsequent finger pointing. Benefits are poor at best. Owner's narcissism keeps the employees on edge damaging productivity. Lots of repetitive work due to poorly coordinated business management software - programs don't talk to one another - leaves lots of room for mistakes. Company is understaffed and thus it has all the problems that come with work backlog. You won't feel good about yourself working here. I'm out of here as soon as I can find another position.

Pros

Great city to work, clean facility, great product

Cons

CEO micromanages and makes it incredibly hard to perform job autonomously. CEO is narcissistic and tends to hire predominantly male employees, and can be competitive with females. Hires and fires family members as if it is a game, showing little loyalty to non family members. CEO sends degrading and unprofessional emails often. There is also high turnover. In a 3 year period over 21 people had left the company, though at the time max employees at a given time were 18-22.

Pros

The people that work for SHP are some of the greatest people I've ever worked for. These people have built a family and if things do not change they will lose the best thing about this company.

Cons

Pay is 20% percent below the industry average and 25% below compared to other companies in the area for the exact same work. Do not take my word for it, look at other company’s on this website. Benefits are some of the worst I've have ever seen at company. Copay is absurdly high and most provider in Santa Barbara will not accept their insurance. Leadership has their hand tied by the CEO who is to concern with new product development then his staff, current product, and current clientele. To quickly summaries SHP’s CEO, it is clearly apparent that bottom line is far more important than the people that work for him. Other key areas to note: All Doctors notes are disregarded. For example, if you were to hurt your back and have a doctor’s note for a standing desk, you would think the company would accommodate, wrong. You would have to exhibit pain and have it recorded by a physician for 6 weeks before they would even begin to accommodate you. And that’s even with a doctors notes. Coffee machine has been broken for 2 months, Microwave has been broken for 2 weeks Lack of growth or career development. Depending on your department, there can be no place for you to go. You can reach the highest position other than management in 3 years after, then that’s it, nowhere else for you to go.
