Pros

Coming from former conversationHealth, at some point there was a shift in ethos that nearly took hold, but all good will is long gone. Present Swoop has a skilled sales team selling vaporware.

Cons

In my brief tenure with this company: - fired the hiring manager while they were on vacation after they did a huge hiring push and increased the engineering team size by over 30% - fired a parent while on parental leave - surprise layoffs throughout existence within days of c-level staff saying no layoffs were coming, more than once - firing people after they reported Swoop c-level staff of sexual misconduct - poor data security practices from sales team, exposing client data to other clients - zero culture - Swoop c-level execs are ethically dubious, vocally condensing, and more focused on lip service than understanding the product. There's only one listed C level exec on the website, in case you're looking for clarity - Pivoting products because of buzzwords and giving up present market share for nebulous AI pie-in-sky integrations is morally questionable and difficult to deliver on personal information security standards. It's unlikely this product pivot goes well, and I expect massive layoffs in 6-8 months

Pros

The engineering culture values autonomy and technical excellence. As a Tech Lead, I had the freedom to make architecture decisions and implement scalable backend services in Python and AWS. Cross-functional collaboration between product, design, and engineering was encouraged, resulting in faster iteration cycles and fewer misaligned priorities. Leadership genuinely listened to engineering feedback, which made it easy to advocate for quality and long-term maintainability. The company invested in continuous integration, testing, and monitoring, which made releases smoother and reduced firefighting. Smart, motivated teammates who care about the craft and are open to knowledge sharing.

Cons

Like many startups, there were periods of rapid change and shifting priorities that could cause short-term stress. Documentation sometimes lagged behind implementation when deadlines were tight. Scaling processes for onboarding and communication could improve as the team grows.
