Pros

Only consider it if you are really financially desperate.

Cons

This has gotta be the worst place on "Wall Street". The culture is terrible, partners are horrendous, MDs are ineffective and weak, and junnior bankers are helpless. TAP has a fast spinning revolver door of junior bankers. Some leave within just MONTHS after joining (dont even wait 4 a bonus). The only people still there either cannot get other jobs or are looking to break free everyday! It is worse than the trump white house. Partners are just BAD at winning deals and BAD at managing. After a few old tower deals they have fallen flat on their faces. Clients from many years ago that they brag about DO NOT REHIRE THEM! They love hurricane chasing after megadeals or pitching stupid ideas and ZERO chance of getting hired. Culture is complete garbage. You will work 2 hard, get paid 2 little, learn nothing of value, get no deal experience, and in the process get repeatedly disrespected. Partners and md's blame each other. They blame poor quality juniors. They pay lip service. Reward the worst offenders. But they don't improve. Junior bankers receive NO PROPER TRAINING, but we r expected to perform at bulge bracket levels. They want us to learn on live deals, which is terrible for everyone including clients! And mds do not have the temperament or ability too teach or be role models. Stay away. Don't say you weren't warned.

Poor firm

Pros

The opportunity to build ones business from scratch exists here. However, the infrastructure, the senior support and the capabilities needed to pull off game changing deals does not exist here.

Cons

You will work hard and management will demand everything you have, but do NOT trust them to live up to their promises (think PAY). The partners either no longer have industry connections, or are not willing to open their rolodex. The junior staff are way too dependent on senior bankers for hand holding, making it extremely difficult to focus on client advisory and business development. I have lost several potential big deals due to the firms perceived lack of capability or expertise. Many bankers here at TAP have worked on transformational, complex deals. Unfortunately, it is hard separate your brand from TAPs brand when pitching complex ideas to clients.
