They have lost their way

Pros

Flexible hours, 9 day fortnight, medical insurance, office location, office dogs.

Cons

Where do I begin: - sexual harassment and grooming by senior leaders is tolerated, and covered up in some cases. - senior leaders are openly discriminatory against staff with protected characteristics (disability, race, gender etc) - favouritism and presenteesm - zero company strategy, everyone is walking around like headless chickens - poor and ineffective decision making - no succession planning. Senior leaders are not getting better at their jobs, in fact they deteriorate the higher up you go - no management training. Many people are promoted because they’ve put up with things they shouldn’t, not because they deserve it. Direct reports suffer. - poor communication. To the point where you think everything is a lie because of how ineffectively the most basic information is handled - profit over people, planet and pets. I do not feed my dog this food - culture has taken a nosedive since the appointment of the new CEO. Unsurprising when you meet him. James was great.

Sad decline of a once great business

Pros

- Substantial benefits for parents (extended paid parental leave, 9-day fortnight, flexible working, lots of remote). - The business operates in a solid market. Therefore, it’s likely to be commercially reasonably successful despite the lack of experienced leadership. - For now, there are still loads of great people left who really care about the product and the customers, but they’re dropping like flies. - Communication has been a massive problem for years now, but in all fairness, it’s recently gotten to an average level of quality in some respects, which is nice.

Cons

Unfortunately, this section would have been relatively empty three years ago, but now… Many other reviews have already called out the main problems around here, and I can confirm all of them, but here’s “my selection”: - Leadership: Ever since the original founders left, there has been a stark decline in professionalism at the top. Nothing makes sense anymore. The chiefs are so far removed from the employees that they can’t see how many people are disgruntled, frustrated, and sad about the company’s state. - Performance management involves promotions for people who know how to talk, and below-inflation pay reviews for those who carry the company, not to mention prevalent nepotism. - Org chart: The reporting lines are random and a constant joke across various seniority levels throughout the business. - Consultants: tails.com loves to spend money on external consultants that provide absolutely zero value, some of which have a negative effect.
