Great place turned terrible

Pros

For the first three years; I used to love working at this game company. It was a dream job: passionate colleagues, exciting project, generous perks, and a culture that encouraged creativity and collaboration. I felt proud to be part of a team that delivered an amazing game that millions of players enjoyed.

Cons

But, For the last two years; - Management does not value our opinions, expertise, or contributions. They treated us like disposable resources, constantly demanding more without giving us the tools, time, or recognition we needed to deliver quality work. I often found myself (more than often) working on tasks that were later scrapped or changed completely after a 30 seconds demonstration, which is frustrating and demotivating. - People can make disastrous mistakes (literally, causing months of work loss) and get away with it completely. - There is a very obvious unequal treatment of employees. Foreign workers seem to be treated better and given more opportunities (and salary) than local workers like myself. - A more recent problem is the inadequate salary increase. While the company recently announced a salary increase, it's not enough to cover the country's inflation rate. It's disappointing to see the company's lack of commitment to adequately compensating its employees, especially when living expenses are increasing. - The company does literally nothing to increase motivation at all. It feels like the company doesn't care about our well-being or job satisfaction, which makes it hard to stay motivated and committed to our work. Our office does not even look like a video game company. Our art department has a separate office which looks like a modern and fun place to work, and the company only shares the photos of this separate office (the one with the huge TaleWorlds logo), creating the perception that this is where everyone works. In reality, most employees are stuck in the bland and uninspiring main office. Overall, I would not recommend working at TaleWorlds. The unequal treatment of employees, the unreliable bonus system, the inadequate salary increase, the lack of motivation-boosting initiatives make it a difficult and unrewarding place to work. While there are some positives, they're outweighed by the negatives. If you're considering a job here, I'd advise you to proceed with caution and be aware of these issues that are mostly recent, which is the last 2 years.

Pros

• Mount n Blade franchise if you like PC gaming and history like me • Expensive ergonomic comfy chairs • Some nice colleagues to work with

Cons

• Extremely terrible management that exploits goodwill and lack of experience of the employees. If you are the quiet and silent type, say goodbye to your basic employee rights; if you struggle, you only get some of it, like me. They didn't pay my salary for months (they paid years later, without the interest, note that Turkey has high inflation with annual rate of %10-%30); they didn't pay for my state healthcare for months (because of this I still have debt to the state); they made a false promise of salary raise; they claimed that I signed some imaginary papers; they defied labor law when I showed the article against their actions etc.; this list goes on and on. In the end, they gave my severance pay (of which they weren't obliged to since I quit) but it couldn't even cover half of what they owe me. And its not just one or two man problem; managers, hr, leads they are all the same. The worst part is no one apologizes for their faults or feels any shame or guilt on it, and you know it will repeat over and over again. • Employees are considered as expendable since there are lots of gamedev wannabes. For example when Warband released on consoles, physical copies were given to the guests of the managers, but not to the employees • Experience or technical knowledge has no value. Your opinions as an expert are mostly ignored • Crunch culture is becoming more common with worse conditions each passing year • Very restrictive for a company which is supposed to be creative. Restrictions on the internet, restrictions on work hours, restrictions on personal projects etc. • Bad project management (anyone can guess that since Bannerlord is under development for eight years). Your tasks can be reassigned to someone else without anyone telling you or your months of work can be canceled after a ten-second demo • Salary is below average (at least for engineers). Royalty distributions are based on your relationship with the management, instead of how much time and effort you spent

Pros

Job security, somewhat more humanitarian approach overall in Turkey and that really means something here.. Salaries are above avarage. Relaxed workspace and helpful/humble people around, no harsh conditions. Also, one of the most hardworking employee is the boss itself, so that's a good thing.

Cons

Management is quite a mess. Lack of communication even within departments. Very long project development process due to no-planning gets tiresome. Limited environment to improve your skills. You really need to be active in the workplace to be aware of what is going on around and that takes a lot of energy. Management actually wants promising individuals to rise up through hard work and chaos and grasp the positions by their hands. While this sounds promising for such an employee, as a byproduct this technique creates so much confusion and chaos in its wake that many other employees actually suffer from its effects. This relates to the fact that there are almost no veteran employees in the company, no one to be recognized as an authority in some departments, and this fact only encourages some employees to have an opinion about everything even if you know that they have no background about the particular subjects. And the bad things is, sometimes these opinions change the way the project works. If you are good by yourself in your corner doing your job playing safe and not getting into messy stuff you are gonna be real happy in Taleworlds. If you are a warrior with unlimited energy and a promising opportunist, you will also be welcome in the company. But if you are in between those two characters, than good luck..
