The heads of design are difficult. They’re the reason I left. Both very poor communicators, one in particular seems to pride themselves on being straight talking but frankly it’s just rude and I was often embarrassed when we spoke to third parties or contractors and they behaved like that with them also. They share a role and it’s led to being very inefficient, nothing ever gets done and it’s hard to know who’s actually in charge as they try to override eachother. They also portray a very different image on social media, it’s a lot of cliched nonsense about being a mentor and thought leader but it’s just style over substance and they’re difficult people to get along with let alone work with. Critique for designs was sometimes laughably vague during internal reviews and based on the heads of design just not liking it personally rather than giving critique as to why. Very frustrating and the fact it was laughed off was infuriating. Very cliquey company to work for, it’s hard to embed yourself and it’s not the friendly open culture they claim it is. Appreciate that all companies have some element of this, but it was particularly bad here and it’s very hard to break through to the inner circle.
