Pros

Get to work with kids and faculty in an attempt to make an impact.

Cons

Executive leadership needs to get with the times. They still operate like it's 1952. The CEO self-identifies as "old school" and it definitely shows. They are obsessed with everybody being in the building, even if it is at the expense of employee convenience or comfort. Their office staff gets to work 4x10's while their school based staff gets to work 5x8's. Office staff also gets to work from home two days a week while school based staff does not unless it's Wednesdays after meetings. They are not flexible with work hours either, so office based staff that prefers to work 5x8's cannot because executive leadership is obsessed with control. This means that if I want to talk to someone who is office based on a Friday, they likely won't get back to me until Monday because they won't be working that day. Executive leadership is also very against working from home and does not support flexible work. They basically allowed office based staff to work from home because people were begging for a flexible policy. But to them, working from home means that you're not really working at all. They get nervous when people work from home and the culture of the company shows that this is clear. Plus, to them, working from home means that you are WORKING FROM HOME and cannot work from a location like Starbucks, a local shop, or from another location. They also do weird things like take away the 4th of July as a recognized holiday in the company and play favorites within the office and the schools. They will give jobs to people that they like just to retain them even if the duties of the job are not defined. I enjoyed my job during my time there but wasn't a fan of the way that leadership handled things. No wonder they've had so many resignations in less than a month. They have such a high turnover rate because they cannot pay market rate against other nonprofits that focus on education and technology. Plus, they are also very "fire happy" and HR is not shy to let you know when a colleague is fired. I'd say stay away from this place.

Pros

Great people that makes coming to work a joy

Cons

Not every person in leadership should be a manager, need a more robust HR team outside of executive team to support and advocate for staff Location is South Seattle, agility is necessary for having great staff that live further away. Remote and Hybrid was clearly not eagerly acceptable by executive team although incredibly beneficial to staff

Pros

You can do fulfilling work while you are there (especially if you are working with students and families) but everything is always at the expense of the workplace. They care very little in investing in you which is why there is so much turnover. That being said, the work that you do with kids and their families can be meaningful and they tend to appreciate you.

Cons

Work policies are very outdated and the executive leadership sometimes has policies that are shady and not transparent. They are focused on expanding but don't even know what to do with the employees and policies that they have in place right now. There are multiple vacancies open, many have been open for more than six months. I did enjoy my job and time when I was working there, but the management likes to play favorites with people who are there. They pay below market rate (even for other nonprofits) and it makes you wonder if you can do the same thing or even greater things at another place and making even more money. There is limited flexibility but only for some people who are there and liked. You are also expected to do "more with less," which is happening a lot right now, but at TAF it seems like it's way too much. Support is limited and leadership just wants you to fix things without giving you much direction or support.
