Pros

Great time to get in LOTS of opening. Good PTO, Benefits and free coffee at some locations. Employees are trying to stay positive. If you can get into a VP/back office type position you're set! Great learning experience - if you want to try out banking, now is a good time. I heard we been recruiting talent from the local retail stores. 15+ openings = If you're a "rockstar" job security, if you're a "meets requirements" job security, if you're a "needs improvement" job security and if you're just plan "terrible" steady paycheck at least 3-6 months with the added bonus of the best personal coaching TechCU has to offer.

Cons

Work life balance on the retail side is close to zero. Organization lacks serious direction and anyone with power is afraid to admit. We are all "yes" people myself included. You pretty much work every other Saturday, sometimes 3 or more in a row. If you work a Saturday you still have to come in for a 6 day work week (3hrs) to cover lunches. Regional Managers filling in as extra bodies for security purposes. Retail staff is working just to survive team moral is low. Asking for PTO or calling in sick is definitely going to make things worse. The only trip you going to get is a guilt trip, it's quite scary. Direction is quite confusing. We wanted to drop teller lines and do more quality type business- but now our newer style branches have "quick service post" that basically do transactions only?Have we come full circle? We also implemented a "member service area" where you as a member can come in and hookup your laptop and do some personal work, how cool is that? Can we say library "rebranded".

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts-both the pros and the cons. And you're right, in a talent-tight market like we're in today, staffing is a constant challenge and one that we are continually looking for new ways to address-for example making changes to our referral program to encourage staff identify talent to fill much needed roles across the organization. Your concerns are noted, and again, thank you for sharing them.

More of a Bank Environment

Pros

Definitely not the best benefits package I've seen but there pretty decent! The company prides themselves on personal/work life balance, but recently I felt like this motto has changed and the company is more demanding of time with the added pressure to meet and exceed sales goals!

Cons

I wouldn't be surprised it TechCU finally moved forward and converted to a bank! It definitely feels like bank environment! High sales goals, cold calling, pressure of turning every interaction with a member into a sale! Those who work in banks.. Sound familiar?! What happened to the personal side of banking?! Back office "open door policy" they claim to be open door and will be there to support you, but unless you are considered highly liked or favored or protected by someone in the company don't bother wasting your time and getting caught up in company politics! High turnover rate! The company doesn't seem to be able to hold on to real talent! Some positions on the career site have been up for months, if you notice most are front line positions working in the branches! The company is always open for suggestions for improvement and innovating which can be hit or miss! They are really slow to move on some ideas and on others it can be the speed of light! The company is always changing, they implement ideas so quickly, it hard to keep everyone on the same page! They're changed the format of the branches making smaller branches covered with three people! Thats not enough coverage! They've gotten rid of teller lines, don't want to waste time with mundane routine transactions! Sales, sales, sales! Pending on who you are and your connections promotions can be difficult to get!

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective on your time with Tech CU. The rapid pace of change in the financial services sector can be daunting, as can the balancing act of managing resources appropriately to make sure our members get the very best service possible. We are constantly working to improve the employee experience as well, including skills development for managers in hiring practices and communication of critical aspects of the work, such as the Saturday schedules. Your feedback is an important part of that process
