One of my worst working experiences.

Pros

My direct supervisor was great. Treated me like a human, was flexible with my schedule as needed, open to feedback, and spent quality time assisting me with issues I had. My co-workers were amazing and passionate.

Cons

LEADERSHIP. Lack of communication (don't expect an email response from leaders until you re-send it at least 3 times). It feels like they don't actually care about improving anything for their staff and then complain about the turnover. When we did the annual survey, many people expressed psychological distress working there. At the All Staff meeting to review the results, they implied we were stupid and didn't understand the question. Many of us did indeed experience psychological distress. Leadership is condescending, demeaning, and threatening. I never felt comfortable talking with anyone other than my direct supervisor because I feared retaliation. I worked in the office, but whenever I did see program staff interacting with clients, it was usually not positive. The two programs leaders usually had an attitude with the clients and while I understand it is really difficult work, there was a lack of compassion from my perspective.

Great Mission - TOXIC MANAGEMENT

Pros

The clients are an absolute pleasure to work with. The facility has received a makeover and it is pretty decent for a shelter. The pay is decent.

Cons

The work environment is extremely toxic. The level of gossip and unprofessionalism coming from management is beyond what I have experienced at any other employer (and I am VERY easygoing). This was a shared feeling between all of the staff. Unfortunately, although we all loved our jobs, not one of us is still there after new management. And there is nowhere to go to have issues addressed. The board of directors does not make any changes or address any complaints as serious as sexual harassments, physical and verbal threats, etc.

Horrific

Pros

The Shade Tree is a wonderful place for temporary assistance to women and children needing shelter.

Cons

They need a new Executive Director. It was a revolving door and the place was filthy, infested with bed bugs and employees were unappreciated, overworked (ratio per resident was not sufficient). It was so dirty, smelt of sewage and mismanaged. The position I held for 8 months was the longest that someone remained in that position in the past two years.
