Pros

staff (not including management) very friendly

Cons

unrealistic sales expectations (up-selling considered the most important thing) and sales are monitored hourly don't care about customers, just making money will try to sell everything, even faulty products management often rude and they don't convey expectations properly, often don't let staff go for breaks managers expect staff to come into work at the drop of a hat, even if it is on their day off hours uneven low pay

Compete disregard for their employees.

Pros

Some flexibility in hours. but mostly because you are not working many hours.

Cons

Where to start. Company sets unachievable targets for their employees and stores as a whole. Commission is conditional upon the store as a whole making their targets, so don't expect to make anything more than minimum wage unless you are in one of a few high traffic stores. Company makes no effort to distinguish their good employees from their bad ones. The company does not give raises. I have spoken to multiple workers within the company that have been with the organization for 2+ years and each time they asked for a raise they were given the same excuse: "there is no room in the company for raises at this time". Company enforces dress code selectively across stores which is extremely unfair. If you work here, do not expect to get many hours per week, as each store is allotted a disgustingly low amount of hours to disperse between typically 5 employees. Upper management is the reason behind the companies weaknesses. There is a very steep vertical hierarchy that makes for unclear, difficult lines of communication. Head office "thinks" they know what happens at store level by-way of district manager. But, district managers do not allow that to happen. District managers are rarely in-store. They do not support the manager and show up once every few months and try and dictate to the manager how things should go. Store managers lack resources and upper management support. Lack of effective and strategic HR practices, as I've heard the DM blatantly say they prefer to hire girls ...

Terrible Company

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

-Discounts on products - Help personalize a gift to someone that may mean a lot to them

Cons

-Management is terrible, gets part time staff to do their work. With no appreciation. Cuts out early almost every day, while they are still getting paid till their "scheduled" time. When other employees ask to leave early since we are standing around doing nothing at all, management says no that everyone needs to be there but then they end up leaving in the next half hour, even though they still have 2 more hours left in their shift. Not to mention, the crazy amount of "breaks" management takes. It almost like they are not even there, and your left in store doing their work like completing shipment, promo changes, etc. Or all the time sitting on the phone talking to other managers about how terrible their DM is. Talk about negative environment. If you get interviewed for this job, please think long and hard about it. Do you want to be taken for granted.Good luck asking for a day off, they will make every excuse for you not to get it. Or good luck feeling confident enough to be in school and work here happily. As they have no sympathy for you, always questioning why you cant work more and how your job means more... I'm sorry but my school actually means more as I do not want to be stuck in this dead end job wasting my life away like them.
