Pros

Good question... never worked after hours?

Cons

* Didn’t pay national legal minimum wage * No contract . Working conditions change as they please. * London studio forsaken by NY. * Unhygienic working conditions, studio not prepared for either heat or cold. No insulation, air con or heater: it’s a sauna in summertime and absolutely freezing in winter. * Poor, unprofessional management. Always blaming everyone else, never taking responsibility for their actions. * Poor communication - terrible administration skills. * Senior staff extremely paranoid * Be aware if you work here you will be a self employed person with no benefits (even if you’re working 5 days/40 hours a week), but without the autonomy a freelancer should have. Massive double standards. You’ll have the obligations of an employee and the benefits of freelancer. * Keep a log of all holiday as they will try and get out of paying you sick and holiday. * Terrible basic rate of pay and commission very unclear. Rules keep changing. * Be aware if you hand your notice in you might be told to leave that day. Manager takes everything personally and holds a grudge against everyone that left. * PRINT PRISON * Friendships at work not encouraged. Manager is always paranoid people are talking about her. * Confidence slowly knocked out of you, as sales team is notoriously bad at selling (according to Tom himself) and the blame falls always on the designers. No respect. * No holidays or sick days at all for 6 months * Commission on a sliding scale and flat rate * Didn’t keep their word to what was promised on the job offer * Change the rules as they go, and the lack of contract makes it impossible to make them accountable * Not transparent about the future work conditions when hiring * Salaries really really low * Absolute lack of transparency. Constant feeling that something really dodgy is going on.

Pros

Most colleagues are fab! United we stand!

Cons

To work here you must have a very thick skin and be incredibly confident in your abilities as a designer. Although your creativity and confidence will be slowly beaten out of you by the micro management and of the owner and creative directors critiques. These happen on a daily basis sometimes twice a day and are very intense. You will be asked to change pointless, minute details. But also be prepared to have your designs totally changed on a whim.... you will never fully have ownership over your designs and you will not be treated as a the talented designer that you most probably are. Speaking of money you will not be compensated for the work you do....you will not get paid commission on every design you sell (even though the sales people do)......its like working in a print prison. You will be treated like a machine and not as a creative individual. You must keep a detailed log of all the prints you sell and your holiday and sick days as management will most probably try to cheat you out of the money the owe you when you leave. Before you start demand a contract that clearly outlines your basic pay, commission rate, holiday entitlement and sick days. Senior staff are extremely dishonest and paranoid! Working conditions aren’t great either…be aware of the aircon….don’t sit underneath it you may end up with it falling on your head…..be prepared to wear a million layers in the winter….don’t touch the radiators they will burn your hands and melt you shoes!!! So you’ll either be roasting or freezing not a great environment conducive with being creative! If you do end up working here learn as much as you can, learn from your colleagues develop friendships, realise that most print studios don’t operate in this dishonest, degrading illegal manner! What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. GOOD LUCK!

Pros

There’s coffee? The one who hires is the only one that’s helpful and they’re obviously overworked.

Cons

You’re not allowed to interact with other employees even if they’re sitting next to you. You’re expected to be working non stop, getting a coffee next door is even too much. Tom Cody himself is insufferable and rude. You definitely feel unappreciated, the bosses are impatient and always frustrated. There’s absolutely no room to grow as an employee they just want you at your desk doing one thing only all day. Several people quit in my short time being there. Other employees have regularly been caught talking smack about the place so it’s an open secret the place is awful.
