Pros

Because of the field of the company, you can find some very nice people who really care about the climate and want to make things better.

Cons

I joined vaayu when there were only a few people and I had the opportunity to learn about the company, the co-founders, and the general mindset of the team. Short version: Super toxic environment, not sustainable at all. Arrogant co-founders and from the tech side a bunch of chaotic projects without any climate-related impacts. So I think if sustainability really matters to you or you want to make good career progress and basically if you are in a position where you don't need to join them, you have much better options. Longer version: When I started, I was promised transparency, a flat hierarchy, and a great opportunity to grow in a sustainable project, gain experience, and, above all, help the climate. I haven't received any of them. At that time there were 3 co-founders. One of them suddenly disappeared. It was so strange and there was no real explanation about the reason. The thing is, this behavior has become the culture of the company. During my time there, many people were treated that way. You attend the daily meeting and see that one of your colleagues is not there. If you ask where are they? Nobody knows. A few days later, one of the co-founders reached out to you in person (rather than in a team meeting) and said that we no longer work with that person. If you ask why? The answer is always the same: it's confidential! We tried to reach out to these people to at least say goodbye and every time we saw them they were treated badly and unfairly. I think the company's CTO is a smart person but they are super inexperienced and when you combine that with arrogance the result is a person who thinks they know the best. In our technical sessions, they kept using the word "veto" when they failed to explain the reasons for some decisions. I personally didn't learn anything useful from them and they failed to make me a better engineer. No development plans at all. So I think if you are a person who believes in feedback culture and believes that companies can achieve much better results as a team, here is not your best choice. I think the CEO of the company who is the sustainability person and responsible for this area in our work environment, didn’t really act or behaved in this matter. During my time there, the CEO had so many personal problems with some colleagues and literally used the phrase "I hate this person or that person"! And as a result, they were fired very quickly, despite their good influence on the team and the great result of their work. Also, after a while, both the CTO and the CEO started to build up a large layer of hierarchy in a way that as an employee I thought I needed to make an appointment to have a little chat with them! In most of the company's projects, most of the work is done by LCA experts and there are no particular technical challenges. So unfortunately I can’t recommend this company to a techie who hopes to face good challenges and learn nice things. Another problem was when they realized that the project would not meet the deadline, instead of changing their approach and putting more energy and thought into it, they tried to put more pressure on people. It was very unpleasant to see my colleagues under enormous stress. It was really unsettling to see them in a position where they couldn't take the driver's seat and make important decisions about projects (since that's what the co-founders wanted to do), but in the end, they were the ones to blame. In some cases, they were fired just to cover up the managers' mistakes. One of the biggest problems with this company, in my opinion, was the fact that it literally didn’t help the climate. The main business of the company is a beautiful and shiny sustainable cover. Basically, the customers just wanted to tell their own customers that we are sustainable and don't harm the environment. Either by offsetting their CO2 emissions via vaayu and some badges from them to confirm this! Without any real action or impact.
