Offensively low salaries, especially in relation to the amount of work and time commitment (for exempt staff) expected, unpleasant bordering on toxic work environments, with underpaid/overworked managers literally at breaking points [observed a lot of tears on a regular basis] and an inability/unwillingness from higher ups to behave in ways that are compassionate. Lofty program goals with no planning to reach them and no budget to support the necessary materials/staff investments. Absolutely willing to pay lip service to areas like social justice, ant-racism, etc but when it comes time to practice those principles, the status quo reveals itself. Genuinely great ideas get floated and then pushed through without future planning, and then fall apart because of it. This agency prides itself on its connections to community and forward thinking principles but is really losing touch with where the communities they serve are going. There is no long term retention of front-lines staff because there is no investment in them. Anyone passionate about the work filters out sooner than later.
