Pros

The people are definitely the pros, my manager was truly the best and helped me make the best out of my position.

Cons

1. When I first joined Wheel they left out a part of the responsibilities of the operations team which was monitoring the marketplace after hours and on weekends for some weeks. Was not told this in my interview but was expected to work extra hours without pay. 2. There is no direction, the company feels so sales led that product cannot get out deliverables. Working on the operations team we see the wider struggles in real time but it is so hard to get product features and support behind important developments 3. This company does not stand up to clients at times, clients will ask for things more than needed and you will be expected to do the extra work even if it is not in your work stream. 4. I was one of the 30% laid off at Wheel recently, they don’t know how to value people. Most people they laid off knew the business more than anyone, they built teams, automations, and processes that never existed from the ground up and none of that work is appreciated. 5. You will be working after hours no doubt. They also changed PTO policies, you can’t work outside the country anymore, and the growth stipend has been reduced also. 6. The more work you do does not mean you will be promoted.

Pros

Michelle is a first time founder and it shows- she has no idea how to run a company and has no appreciation/respect to any employee who has actually built out and helped the business grow. It’s ironic our own CEO doesn’t exemplify a single core value of Wheel.

Cons

Where do I even get started? Michelle is a fraud and all she really cares about is money- don’t be fooled by her story of why she started Wheel. We are not clinician focused and our mission has never really been about improving the access to care to all. We had our first round of layoffs in August 2022 (about 35 people were impacted) even though Michelle told the whole company that we had 3 years of runway- she also read off the most impersonal and robotic script and said we are all in a better place because of the layoff (truly the most disrespectful thing to say after letting go some really dedicated hardworking people). She also threw in a scare tactic saying she has access to communication between employees over Slack and email so if you enjoy being power tripped and big brother’ed, definitely join. We just went through another round of layoffs of about 60 people this week even though…. we currently have 3 years of runway and "were in a better place moving forward.” Huh. Strange. The way it was conducted is a testament to how Michelle really views the people at Wheel - again, an impersonal Zoom meeting reading from a script with no concrete reason why it was done. If you join, you will be another pawn piece she has no problem sacrificing to win her game of wealth and status in the Austin tech world. CULTURE Do you care about culture/company morale? It is dead here- we used to have really high employee engagement and people were so happy to be working together for a mission driven org. As of recently, barely anyone’s camera is on during our all hands and at this point, people are only here to get a paycheck. DON’T BELIEVE THE FAKE REVIEWS If you see any positive Glassdoor reviews on this page, they are all done by marketing to save face. They also asked everyone internally to write Glassdoor reviews to even out all the negative reviews so if you’re looking on this page now to assess whether it’s a good idea to join this sinking ship- please reconsider for your own sake. OVERALL: Wheel is now purely run by politics. You will be underpaid here to do the job of 3 people and there is a ton of pay inequity internally across all orgs- trust me.. people talk. There’s a lack of career growth and uneven promotion cycles. A lot of leadership changes/departures, no product direction, no culture, lack of transparency - it’s only about saving Wheel’s brand at this point.

Pros

Coworkers are generally nice people, which creates a positive work environment on the surface.

Cons

Disclaimer: I was NOT among the many who were laid off. I'm writing this review with complete honesty and transparency. 1. The CEO lacks substance and direction, relying more on posting nice little healthcare things on social media and celebrating random holidays than driving strategic direction or bringing in clients. She sounds like a ChatGPT generated CEO on all her Q&A responses and speaking arrangements. It's like she's more interested in playing at being a CEO than actually being one. 2. The CEO has a group of BFFs who are relied on to pass information to her, leading to a culture of favoritism and injustice. It's like high school all over again, but with more homework and drama. 3. There is a lot of leadership turnover, which creates a sense of instability and lack of direction. 4. The VP of Ops is capable but it's hard to trust her as a leader. During conference calls her line of questioning can be very aggressive, and sometimes it honestly feels as if her objective is to embarrass her own team members in front of their colleagues. It's an intimidating, awkward and demoralizing experience. Overall, while the coworkers at Wheel Health are nice people, the company suffers from a lack of leadership, direction, and integrity. Until the company addresses these issues, it's not a great place to work. Make sure to sort reviews by Newest First to get an accurate portrayal of what's going on.
