Stressful, Toxic Work Environment

Pros

Mission, location and nice offices

Cons

The environment was extremely stressful. One did not know from one day to the next where they stood in the organization. A lot of personal feelings/biases seemed to affect how employees were treated. The Senior Management team constantly changed course direction, reorganized the organization structure and often provided conflicting direction on goals. They seemed to change their minds frequently about which direction we were headed in and after spending a lot of time on work in one direction, it was often changed to another direction, so everything that was done before was for nothing. I felt like I wasn't able to make a difference or accomplish anything with the constant changes. Very unorganized, chaotic and gossipy environment.

Unclear values, toxic culture, poor leadership

Pros

Incredible mission and inspiring stories about the impact of your work can make it an incredibly rewarding employer. Overall, colleagues are amazing people socially. Ambitious focus on feeding families and helping people.

Cons

Leadership sets goals between departments that compete for resources, creating a gossip culture and hostile working relationships between colleagues. Despite the number of women in leadership, women frequently experience inferior treatment. Poor management, particularly related to HR matters. Unable to articulate the organization's values.

Leadership prevents WFP USA from being great

Pros

Flexible work arrangement/schedule Great colleagues Excellent collaboration (at the junior/mid-manager level) Opportunity to work on amazing things Compensation is fair as they recently had a third party evaluate market value and suggest adjustments

Cons

Don’t let the NPT Power & Influence Top 50 list/award deceive you. Simply put, CEO Barron Segar is a narcissist and the definition of an ineffective leader who has the privilege of being a white man. He has never led an organization before, and it shows internally. Segar comes off as caring, but he will fire anyone at the drop of a hat, and only cares about you, if it benefits him or if you stroke his ego. Segar’s fiery personality leads to in-fighting within the leadership for resources and recognition. This trickles down to a toxic environment for everyone down. The SLT claims to care about culture and values, but everything points to them not caring about their staff and only themselves. Staff does not get recognized for their contributions - unless it promotes Segar - and get chastised for minor mistakes. Also, Segar’s favorites are constantly rewarded - high praise at staff meetings, promotions, etc. - for brownnosing, which means mediocrity and incompetence are celebrated. All in all, the culture is a mess.
