Pros

interesting product, a lot of smart people, fast-paced and very innovative, great marketing and event presences. May is super smart and really great to bring into deals. Investors are ready to jump in for intros to leads. Easy to get conversations to discuss AI and AI initiatives. Great enterprise customers. Very smart people at your disposal to support with product knowledge and smooth path to steps. Tight sales process and well-defined ICPs and how to go after them. The industry leads are amazing.

Cons

no work/life balance, family and pregnancy sneered at, middle managers, books are hit and miss, very high expectations and no room for error. Some AEs are killing it, others have been there for over a year and haven't closed a deal, some were doing really well but were let go for reasons unknown. Fear-based culture. I didn't have this problem, but many AEs complained about a lack of availability and support from solutions consultants. Poor customer retention, lost one of the biggest ICP customers due to increasing price without increasing value. Rumored challenges between C-Suite and sale org.

Pros

Excellent front line team mates, and some solid mid-level leaders, but that is about it.

Cons

The culture on the post-sales side is incredibly toxic, starting from the C-suite on down. Multiple Gong call recordings have reportedly been deleted because the CEO, May, and CCO, Mina, were recorded berating team members for "incompetence." The product is consistently falling behind competitors in both quality and value. While competitive pressure is inherent in the GenAI space, our product lacks meaningful differentiation — it tests worse than alternatives and is more expensive than the competitors you'll regularly encounter in deals. We're expected to move at "Writer speed" but given little support to do so. Compounding this, customers are spread across multiple disparate pricing models, meaning every interaction requires significant context switching just to understand what a given customer even has access to. Expect to be micromanaged. The CEO regularly drops into Slack channels to second-guess decisions without any account context. We've also been reduced to reporting on vanity metrics like meetings held and emails sent, as if volume is a substitute for actual productivity. Unless you're in a desperate situation, I'd look elsewhere — and even then, I'd think twice.

Beware of Toxic Culture

Pros

Product has great potential. Good benefits and perks but hardly able to use them.

Cons

Great leaders lead from the front, lift you up. At Writer they lead from behind and push you down, lift themselves up (leading from the rear) and throwing you under the bus! Be prepared for a culture of toxicity, no work life balance, being on fire all the time, and an environment of finger pointing all in the name of "Writer Speed". Things to watch out for and to steer clear of is in Cloud Engineering. It is a disaster waiting to happen. Makes you think where do they find these people and how do they vet them as it has been a revolving door here with no end in site.
