Pros

Of all my jobs, this is probably the best place I had worked at and I still remember my time here and my work colleagues with fondness. My pre UL manager was definitely the best boss I have had and I have only good things to say about the previous directors.

Cons

After the takeover by UL and after an initial period of good changes being done things quickly took turn for the worse. It's all about generating value now and zero care towards employees. Series of decisions which were just thrust down from the top without any consultation at all left a lot of people disillusioned and angry. Most of the good people I knew have left or are thinking of leaving.

Pros

This was a great company until the takeover. Great people, great directors and great atmosphere. The directors are happy ( a few million in the bank) but they have now all left.

Cons

This was the perfect job for me however, things changed rapidly from a friendly customer driven company to money, money, money box shifting company. Things got so bad that 4 people left in the same week. Turnover of staff is high, no one is really happy anymore, the talent have now gone, there is very little culture and spirit left. Most of the staff engaged in fire fighting. If you dont have the attitude of an american you have little chance of success here.

Tragic waste of a good company

Pros

Great people (in the UK) Good location and office Free fruit

Cons

A classic example of a successful, functioning company being purchased and put on the path to destruction by the new owners, who completely fail to understand it (and make no effort to do so) - especially in the area of technology. Sales targets are now all that matters, together with an irrational desire to combine products with those in the US (also purchased) that really don't sit together well. Since all senior managers report to staff in the US (and increasingly responsibilities are being shipped over there, impacting morale), many significant UK issues never get addressed, and the top-level management structure comes across as a 'dysfunctional family'. The general belief is that the end game is for the US company to take over the intellectual property and customers, and let the UK office wither.
