Intermountain Garfield Memorial Hospital in Panguitch, Utah is breaking ground to expand a new operating room and pharmacy services. The new operating room center will greatly expand services in the hospital. This marks the first expansion to the hospital in decades. An additional operating room is being added to serve as both a gastroenterology suite that can continue to provide screening colonoscopies and EGDs as well as regular surgical cases. The expansion will remodel the hospital’s central processing area, the post anesthesia care unit, and the pharmacy. “We are excited for this new expansion as our community would typically have to travel many miles away to have certain procedures like a tonsillectomy,” said DeAnn Brown, president of Intermountain Garfield Memorial Hospital. “Now they get to stay close to home, near their families, making their care more convenient and comfortable.”
After he was born at St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Billings, Montana, a nurse in the newborn nursery heard a heart murmur that led to Weston Sondeno being diagnosed with a heart condition. With this condition, Weston expected to need a valve replacement in his 50s or 60s. But at age 17, during Weston's annual exam, his pediatric cardiologist noticed a change that required urgent action. Weston and his care team were now looking at options for a surgery that had gone from years to months away. Read more about Weston's story in the article below, including how he and his family joined his caregivers for a recent ribbon cutting of the $1.4 million expansion of the Intermountain Health Fortin Pediatric Specialty Clinic in Billings.
