Pros
Hard to mention, more cons in the end. Nice people to work with to some degree, customers can sometimes be fun.
Cons
❌️RECENT REVIEW. CAUTION FOR PART-TIME HIRING vs. PART-TIME PLUS. 10/2024. STORE WILL HIRE YOU MOSTLY FOR THEIR BIG SALES AND DISPOSE OF YOU MONTHS LATER WITH NO RECOURSE PRIOR.
Overall a place where like too many places have managers who intimidate, hide, and pretend to care. The whole company in your short training pretends to give a crap about community and yet they don't communicate to you prior on ways that actually build community and a team that doesn't avoid conflict but works through it, which is why partially I'm sure the store is losing money and the company as a whole. Too much turnover here.
They just dispose of you without any accountability on communicating ways to make up for anything if truly accidental, they don't actually do their jobs and thus it is a place to come and go and collect a paycheck. Sad, cause so many customers like me have commented on being surprised but that's why the store doesn't align with it's values.
• DYSFUNCTIONAL!
• They may laugh about this instead of genuinely addressing it. The store is not what it could be as a Co-Op.
• Somewhat deceptive practices in hiring.
• Part-time is NOT part-time.
• Part-time = no guaranteed hours*
• Management will string this process of revealing you have no guarenteed hours throughout the hiring process. They'll likely say 16 hours, 8 hours, and then no hours. Thank you Josh.
• This store has a process that is not clear enough.
• They often hire more than needed for big sales, which creates a problem on the back end.
• They don't value you enough, past their own definition of value.
• Your value there to the store is a low bar for what little bit of change could be implemented to show the connectedness of a real co-op.
•Real change would cause others less mental health issues from the lack of accountability, which was all I heard from other employees!
• They have unclear procedures that they can turn back on to favor them, which to someone guarenteed no hours is poor management.
• Not an honest enough, transparent, or truly connected store for communication and hiring.
• They are losing revenue, so it seems unlikely hiring will stay stable. Seems like a bad design.
*You are told two different things. I was told there was a process to handle issues, and then last minute with no options was told they did not have to honor it.
•🚨 They expect more loyalty from you than they return which feels unhealthy.
• ⚠️It feels, unfortunately, like a place where they want more connectedness. Still, they do not represent REI as a company, and that is why the store and the company are losing revenue and making workers who were deceptively given mixed stories in hiring to cover this store's tail, acting as if they care.
• They discard you without proper accountability for their end of things with timely and direct communication. Their management does not come to you to work on issues and address them properly ahead of time or at all.
• They will refer to "coaching you" as a brief, passive mention of procedures brought up in an untimely manner, all of which is dysfunctional.
■The Store Manager Ross and a younger manager Josh are HIRING YOU TO BENEFIT THE STORE, not you in the end. I wish I had seen this sooner and yet so much talk about community.
●Many are there more for the paycheck in the end than REI claims to be. *That is why the lie falls apart slowly.
• You cannot keep something going well when its foundation is dishonest and self-serving, and it creates an appearance of good when it is not so in pretty key ways underneath.
I can claim accountability for why I left, but not having a store held to the same accountability shows me that it was nothing more than a façade for the "team" and "Co-Op" they appear to offer.
It is false advertising in the end. 1/3 of the store are avoidant people who take no accountability overall emotionally and in communication, and are unfortunately jerks because of this, sadly.
I WOULD SEARCH FOR WORK ELSEWHERE! Just a genuine heads up.
