I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at American Airlines (Dallas, TX) in Jul 2016
Interview
The interview process for the inflight trainee is lengthy. I would estimate from start to finish it took about three months.
The first step is the online application. If your online application is successful, you will be invited for a video interview. I don't remember the questions but I think they are included in other reviews so you can somewhat prepare. Remember to smile and dress professionally.
If you are successful in the video interview, you will be invited to the headquarters in Dallas for an in person interview. American will provide a flight itinerary if you are not a local candidate. There is also a shuttle from DFW to the lodge (interview location).
The interview felt rushed and I have had better experiences. Upon arrival to the room, you check in and complete a writing test.
The first part is a game/ice breaker. Just be friendly and yourself and remember you are being watched and they are taking notes. After the game, everyone is split into groups 8-10 (too large IMO) and they are interviewed as a group in another room.
There are only three questions during the group interview - why do you want to be a flight attendant for American? What was your proudest moment at work? the last question is a mystery question... it could be - how do you make a good first impression? who is your role model? if your life was a movie what would be the title? when you think of a brand what comes to mind? etc.
After the group interview you return to the main room and they call people based on 'flight time.' Which I think is partially true but from what I've heard the earlier you are called, it's pretty much you being walked out. Although, I did hear of someone who was fingerprinted but still sent a rejection notice.
I'm not sure what they are looking for and I couldn't particularly think of any reason I wasn't selected except maybe I was too outspoken. All of the interviewers have
worked for American for at least 15 years.
I didn't really feel like I had the opportunity to express my qualifications and personality bc the group was too large and there wasn't enough one on one time.
Also, they didn't even share their results from the first game so I didn't get a chance to learn about them.
