      Benefits Adviser Interview

      20 Jul 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Jacksonville, FL
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at American Income Life (Jacksonville, FL) in Jul 2016

      Interview

I had to literally wait a week to calm down and gather my thoughts before writing this review, b/c of how absolutely ludicrous my interview went! I should have know from the beginning that there was going to be nothing professional about the interview based on the initial phone call I received inviting me to interview. The young lady I spoke with stated my resume was found online, and based on my extensive experience, they wanted to invite me to come in to discuss the "Benefits Adviser" position they had open. From the conversation I could tell the young lady was not groomed in how to converse with a prospective candidate -which was probably not her fault but a lack of experience and training. I accepted her invitation to come in, and was given an allotment of interview times that were available - all within 15 minute increments? 10:30, 10:45, 11:00, etc. HUH??? Since when does an interview only last 15 minutes? Is this a cattle call? I was also thrown off when the young lady refused to have me send a resume over for the hiring manager's review - yet another red flag. Since the interview location was only 10 minutes from where I was going to be that day, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and see what it was about - WRONG DECISION! I arrived before my scheduled interview time, and immediately noticed people coming and going with resumes in hand. I signed in and sat for a few minutes, until my name was called by a gentleman who IMMEDIATELY demonstrated lack of professionalism. He called my name and didn't bother to extend his hand to shake mine, and was NOT going to introduce himself until I asked him what his name was after realizing he had no intention to telling me. He still only gave me a first name ONLY. I was led into his "office", which I think he was just borrowing for the interview, and the very first thing out of his mouth was "Why do you NEED us?"!!!! Excuse me?!?!? What did he mean "why did I need them?" I was contacted by the company, not the other way around, so he had the nerve to start the interview by assuming I "needed" them? I was immediately caught off guard with his arrogance and assumption, and reminded him why I was INVITED to come. He then asked the generic "tell me about yourself" question, in which is didn't hear half of what I said as he glanced outside the window and "scanned" across my resume that he didn't get the chance to review ahead of time. He proceeded to downgrade everything I ever accomplished on my resume and again - made countless assumptions about my current status and skill. Literally not even 5 minutes later, I stopped him mid sentence with whatever foolishness he was saying, grabbed my resume from his desk, thanked him for nothing but wasting my valuable time and walked out. It was extremely apparent that he had no people skills, no interview skills, and had no idea how to deal with the general public. He had no note pad, computer, or tablet to take any notes on anything I was saying, nor did he have an pre-screening questions. Everything he said was a belittlement of my success, and mentioned nothing about the company nor the position. Which BTW, when I did ask him if he could tell me more about the job in detail, he simply said "yeah I'll get the that". LOL!!!!!!!!!! You can't make this type of stuff up! It's unreal how companies can hire buffoons like this young man to interview real, adult, qualified people. I have no time to allow anyone or anything WASTE anymore of my valuable time! Get it together AIL... Your "talent" is deterring real talent from wanting to join your organization. First impressions are a two way street.
