I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Bananatag Systems (Vancouver, BC) in Apr 2021

      Interview

Recruiter contacted me, asked me what times were good. I provided my availability. They responded by requesting me to do a video interview with a generic email that looks like it was sent to multiple candidates. The video interview was in the format where there's a question provided, and you record yourself answering it. Probably as dehumanizing as an AI interview, but they did it before it was "cool".

      Interview

Interviews were excellent. Each stage was well planned and totally reasonable for the position (1 stage involved virtual white boarding, which was fine). All the interviewers had important questions, and even stayed late to answer some of mine. Mine had 4 stages total, which I think is perfectly reasonable.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Bananatag Systems (Vancouver, BC) in Jan 2021

      Interview

The interview process started with an in-house recruiter and a basic phone screen and was then told that there will be a coding challenge. Two weeks go by and I re-reach out as I expected one, then was given a problem by email with little to prepare for and just a "surprise, here it is." After completing it, the next day, the recruiter stated that they were impressed and wanted to bring me in for the next round and asked for times, which was provided. Two more weeks go by without a response, after which the recruiter apologized stating that the company was prioritizing hiring elsewhere but would bring me in for an interview, which was with an engineering manager, a developer, and a PM. This was largely behavioural/trivial with a design question. After which I have not heard from them since. I would presume that they already filled the role but the least you could do as a recruiter is update your leads, even if you do fill.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was first asked general background questions. The take-home challenge question was a JavaScript function based on file input. The in-person round was predominantly behavioural and trivia questions based around Node.js/JavaScript.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback about your interview experience on our GlassDoor page. First off, we want to apologize that you didn’t have a good experience and take full accountability for this. We’ve reviewed the feedback you provided and have taken a look at our internal processes and have made some improvements: We have changed which channels we use to communicate as a team to whether or not a candidate has passed or is disqualified from each stage of the interview process. All correspondence and information will be kept in one unified system so that this won’t happen again. In addition, we are unifying our language in our phone screens and email correspondence so it is clear to candidates (example: assignments vs assessments). This will also help candidates better prepare for at-home technical assignments. Something we didn’t realize we were doing. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with the feedback so we can continue to improve our candidate experience. We wish you all the best in your search. - Technical Recruiter
