Received an invite for a telephone interview within 3 days - unusually fast. And professional, clear communication to arrange for the date and reschedule it when it came to that.
I had some questions around whether the role was a good fit when I applied and that it was possibly too junior. The interviewer voiced the same upfront when she called me, but stated that my profile was still very interesting and she wanted a chance to learn more and see if there is another opportunity in the future that might fit. I was rather impressed - most companies don't even bother to treat candidates who are a good fit with the respect necessary for them to want to apply again. Generic, cold declines or no response is the default out there - so Boehringer seems to have the exact right attitude here in the often touted "war for talent" or at least a smart hiring manager and good HR processes and communication.
The conversation was pleasant and it was an adult conversation rather than an interrogation. Again, good approach to raise interest and the discussion was fit for me to learn more about BI and the hiring manager get more flavour for what I was looking for. Was very happy to follow the suggestion to keep in touch and have her share my profile internally.
Bravo... and (most) other companies - take note!
