I had to go through 6 interviews and meetings with various personnel over 1.5 months. On the 3rd or 4th time, I was informed I had the position by the person who would have been my supervisor; I just needed to speak to one more person who was the head of a large department there (not the creative department) as a formality. I met with this individual and after a week of silence, I inquired again and was told they have decided to move on to other candidates despite was I was initially told; I even have prior emails of discussing official onboarding with this organization. I was frustrated and upset with this outcome and inquired with the internal recruiter I had worked with about what happened. When I thought they wouldn't respond, she actually did call me several days later which I genuinely did appreciate. She was professional yet empathetic. I was never given a reason as to why they ultimately decided to move forward with other candidates; the recruiter was unsure as well. I am mostly upset because they lied to me and I wasted 1.5 months. Additionally, I stopped looking for other opportunities because I assumed I was guaranteed the position.
