      Team Lead Interview

      22 Feb 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Barcelona
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Criteo (Barcelona) in Feb 2025

      Interview

Unprofessional Hiring Process, Poor Management & Lack of Transparency Pros: Competitive salary and benefits package (at first). Well-known company with interesting projects. Cons: Broken commitments & unreliable hiring process: This is not the first time I’ve experienced serious unprofessionalism from this company. Previously, after completing a rigorous interview process and signing a written offer, they withdrew it due to internal conflicts—showing a complete disregard for my time, effort, and trust. Now, after reconsidering me for the same position, the process was once again mishandled. Misleading and disorganized hiring approach: I was put in what was presented as a casual team discussion—only to later find out it was actually a formal interview. This was never communicated to me, making the process unclear and deceptive. Unstructured decision-making: After discussing salary and being told they wanted to offer me the position, I was unexpectedly rejected because “the team didn’t feel the click.” If that was the deciding factor, why proceed with salary negotiations in the first place? This kind of last-minute backtracking is highly unprofessional. Lack of leadership in hiring decisions: In any serious company, leadership roles—especially Team Lead positions—are decided by management, not left entirely to a team that may lack experience in assessing leadership qualities. It is unheard of to let a group of engineers, some with far less experience than me, make the final call without proper oversight. Chaotic internal management & poor communication: The hiring process has been plagued by delays, unclear messaging, and shifting expectations. At no point was I given a clear understanding of what to expect, and even when issues arose, they were never communicated transparently. Disrespect for candidates: Twice now, this company has wasted my time with unclear, unprofessional hiring practices. Rescinding a signed offer was already a huge red flag. But even when reconsidering me for the role, they failed to provide a fair and structured evaluation process. Advice to Management: Fix your internal conflicts and align your hiring strategy before engaging candidates. A signed offer should be a firm commitment, not something to be withdrawn due to disorganization. Ensure transparency in the interview process. Candidates should be fully aware when they are being formally assessed. Make leadership hiring decisions at the management level. Allowing an engineering team to choose their own Team Lead without oversight results in biased and unprofessional decision-making. Respect candidates’ time and effort. If you’re not serious about hiring, don’t waste people’s time with misleading processes. Twice now, I’ve experienced an unprofessional and chaotic hiring process with this company. I would strongly advise against engaging with them unless you are prepared for poor communication, shifting expectations, and a complete lack of accountability from management.
