      Account Manager Interview

      26 Oct 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Boston, MA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DigitalOcean (Boston, MA) in Oct 2016

      Interview

I was introduced to the hiring manager through a mutual friend. We had an initial phone call after which I was introduced to their HR department. From there, I performed phone interviews with two members of the team, including their VP of Sales, and also met in person with the Director of Sales. I was also given the chance to speak with someone currently in the role for which I was applying.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The interview format was very conversational- everyone simply wanted to get an understanding of how I approached my day, what my strengths were, how well I understood the industry and DigitalOcean's niche, etc. Every person allowed me to the chance to demonstrate what unique skills and ability I could bring to the team.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DigitalOcean (Boston, MA) in Jan 2017

      Interview

Overall a great experience, very long, but as a company that values hiring the right people I can appreciate DigitalOcean spending time to really get to know the candidates. They were also flexible with scheduling so I could fit it into my schedule. I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter in late November 2016. I had a phone screen with the recruiter, and then began meeting with individuals from the account team. Each interview was done via Google Hangouts, which was nice because I had a chance to see and connect with the people I would be working with. The questions varied, from personality traits ("how would you handle this type of situation"), to technical questions ("what do you know about virtualization and container technology"). I spent a lot of my time connecting my experiences with the available position, and the people at DigitalOcean did a great job explaining to me about the role, so as the interviews progressed, I had an increasingly clear picture of the job and how if fit into the DigitalOcean culture. I had a total of 5 Hangout interviews over the month of December, and then I met with the VP at a Panera Bread. That meeting also went well, afterwards a panel interview was scheduled. I went into the Boston office and did the panel interview with two people, and three remote on Hangouts. I prepared a powerpoint presentation sharing my 30/60/90 day plan and answered any remaining questions. An offer was made however I had a requirement to work remote; and this particular position had to be located in the Cambridge office, and my family was in the process of relocating out of state. I think there was some confusion around this because my peers whom I had interviewed with were in remote positions and much of DigitalOcean runs remote; so I had assumed this position would also be amicable to remote. Ultimately I wasn't able to accept the role because of the on-site requirement. However, the company and employees all seemed like stand-up individuals who are passionate and driven, and I was highly inspired by all of this. They all were very candid about the challenges they faced and how they were working as a team to overcome it. It was a great experience as a result of all this, despite it ultimately not working out for me personally.
