      Sales Strategy and Operations Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at DoorDash in Sept 2020

      Interview

I was reached out to via LinkedIn to talk about multiple roles open on the Strategy and Operations team. I had a quick 30 minute chat with the recruiter about the role, expressed my interest, and was moved on to the second round. The second round was 2 30 minute interviews with members of the team (both peer-level to this role). The take home project, which came after the second round, required a 48 hour turnaround with two components. It was the most time-consuming and frustrating take-home project I've ever had to do for a job interview and easily consumed 10 hours of my time (in conjunction with doing my normal 8-5 job). I made it to the final round - 5 interviews at 30 minutes each. 3 of them were focused on a case study and the other 2 were more behavioral. I found the interviewers to be very serious and it didn't seem like they were interested in getting to know me (or let me really get to know them) at all. The case studies in particular took up a lot of time (20-25 minutes of the 30 minutes total) and left very little opportunity to ask questions about the role, the team, or anything else I would want to know before making a decision about whether or not I wanted the job. They didn't ask anything about the case study I had spent two days on, which seemed odd and honestly like a massive waste of time. It also seemed strange that I didn't get to speak to the hiring manager until the very end and even then, due to the focus on the case studies, got very little info about him/the role. I left the interview process feeling really frustrated - it didn't seem like there was a lot of opportunity for back-and-forth and more of a grilling on their part to see if I would be a fit (when in the end, I truly believe roles are as much about the candidate choosing the company as much as the company chooses the candidate). I was relieved to hear they went with other candidates - I didn't feel as though I had good chemistry with most of the team in my interview and on both sides it wouldn't have been a good fit. The recruiting team was very professional and communicative and I learned I did not receive an offer through a phone call/voicemail (which was nice and seems more personal than just a standard rejection email).

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at DoorDash (Melbourne) in Jul 2022

      Interview

Very time-consuming process. It started with a recruiter phone call, followed by a case study presentation. Total of nine interviews with nine different people across the world. The total time spent interviewing was 2 months and 2 weeks. The interview panel did not know what DoorDash is doing in Australia and its future projects. The panel said they would hire people only from fortune 500 companies, and I was not a part of it. A big red flag in the last round of interviews.

      Sales Strategy and Operations Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at DoorDash (Los Angeles, CA) in Nov 2021

      Interview

Was reached out to on LinkedIn, did a quick 5 minute phone screen and felt like I had no relevant experience compared to the questions I was asked so I expected nothing. There was no job description or exact title given to me. Every single conversation felt very rushed. A recruiter then emailed asking to move me to the next round. I had 2, thirty minute interviews. Neither person I interviewed knew what the job was I was interviewing for. They couldn’t even provide me with a general idea - they both were in very different roles and didn’t work together. One had just started the position 2 months ago. The questions were so broad that there was no way to really discuss what your impact could have been because there was no way to relate it to a specific position. It felt very uncomfortable. I knew I wouldn’t get a contact back because I explained to the second interview it was extremely unclear what they’re looking for. I am all about growing industries and also having to find the right fit for the right person but this all seemed like a big waste of time especially because they never received my resume, no one asked me about my experience, and they couldn’t tell me even what department the role would be in and what that department did.

      Question 1

Why do you want to work here? What would you do if the revenue of the business declined? Who are the biggest stakeholders? A few “behavioral” questions.
