      Software Developer Interview

      16 Sept 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Epic in Sept 2014

      Interview

I was contacted by a recruiter via email. They saw my resume and thought my background was a match for the role. I applied through Epic's website, in 3 days HR invited me for a phone interview. Phone Interview That was about an hour and you speak with one of their developers. The guy was nice and friendly, sounded like he was given a list of questions to ask (eligibility to be employed in the States, are you willing to relocate if offered the job, a project you have worked on, one brain-teaser). Then he tells you about Epic and you can ask your questions. Online Assessment Next was the online test. Done through ProctorU with a live person watching you taking the test. 4 parts - speed, maths, learning a new programming language and programming. The programming was 4 questions, says it is not timed, but it is, if you take too long, at some point they give you a warning that you have 15 mins left and then your assessment is submitted. The questions weren't difficult, but your result is assessed based both on accuracy and speed, so even thought they say you don't need to prepare and it isn't timed, I suggest you do yourself a mock test and see how long it takes you. You can use Java/C/C#/etc. or pseudo-code. I didn't finish the programming section, so I don't think I will get an offer, but I still think Epic is a nice company to work for and that the selection process is fair.

Medium level leetcode and then a very basic system design question as a final round interview. Overall, smooth and simple process. Only one technical and it was the first one.

      Interview

[OA] OA was fair. Programming part are leetcode easy and easy-mediums, straightforward simulation, backtracking, dfs, strings, etc. No DP/graphs but ymmv. [Final interview] (Case Study) I think the interviewer came up with their own prompt. It's mostly discussion-based, with a virtual white board. It's not too technical. I'm guessing its testing your communication/logical reasoning than system design skills. (Pair programming) 1 question, same format as the OA on the same platform, leetcode easy. [Overall] Technical difficulty isn't bad. Interviewers who are current software devs seemed friendly. Had a good experience, yet got rejected.
