Software Developer/Test Analyst With MSC Program Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at FDM Group (London, England) in May 2016

      Interview

Reasons for applying for FDM graduate program After searching for graduates scheme I was particulars drawn to the FDM because of things that offered such as their applied master computer science program, their training. I was also drawn to their core values, their diversity, their advocate for women within the work place, military program (a chance to give those who have served their country a chance to work in IT without a degree really touched me) and a chance to work with blue chip companies. Application process I applied to FDM through their website and received a phone call (The phone call was part of the interview although it fell more like a formal chat) from them two days later informing me that my online application was successful. Upon successful completing my phone interview I was informed that I would need to do two addition things in order to get on to the scheme, a video interview and if successful the next stage would be the assessment centre. Assessment centre My video interview was successful which led me to assessment centre a week later. The day began with a presentation and short video. The goal was to inform us about the different roles in FDM and what we would expect if we were successful. A short while later the interview process began. The interview was in three stages and all done by three different people which involved talking about your degree, why you wanted to work for the company etc. Within the interviews complete we began of series of test Venn test, a maths test and a IT complacency test. The first test was an hour. Then a lunch break was given which followed by the maths test which was half an hour and IT test which was an hour. Then home time. We were told to expecting the outcome of the test in two days but in truth it was the next day. I was informed the next day that I did not get in even though I did very well in the three tests. When I asked why I was told that in one of my interviews I did not do well. Conclusion In short my experience at FDM assessment was great and I did learn a lot from assessment day. The recruiters are nice and I did have a laugh and joke with a few of them. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get their foot in the door as they do allow different degrees that are not related to IT. Although my outcome was not the outcome I wanted, I was told over the phone that I could re-apply in three months. This is quite good because certain companies you have to wait six months to a year to re-apply. I however am not sure if I am going to re-apply because although my interests and FDM are aligned and love their environment, the chance to work with blue chip companies as well as the fact there have MSc program. Despite this the reason for me not re-applying is that I was told by recruiter that I failed one interview by a small margin and that was enough for me not to get in the program despite the fact that I passed two interviews, my three tests and demonstrated the personal projects that I worked on as well as having been programming for many years. While others who have degrees in different fields such as art are allowed entry (which is great because software should not be written just by people with computer science degrees.) on their first attempt. So in short the reason I not re-apply is despite my enthusiastic, my skills set, my programming experience the recruiters were not impressed and deemed me unworthy. Re-applying a second time will not change the outcome. On a postive not I have applied for many different graduate schemes fingers crossed I get in.....
