      Graduate Software Developer Interview

      18 Dec 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at FDM Group (London, England) in Nov 2019

      Interview

3 stage interview process: 1) Phone interview Just a simple phone call to make sure that you have the enthusiasm and you are what you've written on your CV. If all goes well you're immediately passed on to the next stage 2) Video recorded questions and answers A set of questions they ask you, each with 30-60 seconds of preparation time, that you would answer in video format, either using a webcam or your phone. Questions they ask are strength based, so things like 'How would you go about learning about new technologies' or 'What is your greatest achievement'. -Face to face interviews at one of their academies You'll be invited to an academy at any of the locations of your choice (London, Leeds, Birmingham, and possibly more), where you'll take 3 short tests and have 3 face to face interviews with 3 separate FDM members. The tests topics are sequences, verbal reasoning and ven diagrams/sets. The interview questions are almost identical to the 2nd stage with the video questions and answers. The interviewers ask you around 5/6 strength based questions each. The amount of support and resources provided by FDM's HR department themselves is great. They'll help you prepare extremely well for the interviews and give you a solid idea of what to expect. Although this is for a graduate software development role, there are no coding tests or assignments. The reason I declined the offer is because: -You NEED to be geographically flexible -There's no guarantee you'll be assigned a client after your training period, meaning you could be let go by FDM and go back to job searching -Training is not paid, only travel is reimbursed -23k outside London and 25k in London is too low -As a Computer Science graduate, I'm not willing to be forced to attend simple coding classes all over again If you have had very little experience with coding, or are looking to enter the IT industry after graduation, then FDM might be for you, but there are better opportunities for those who already have a reasonable amount of experience coding.

      12 Apr 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Melbourne
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at FDM Group (Melbourne)

      Interview

The first screening is a HackerRank test. The coding tasks are fairly straightforward; however, you won't be able to access any code documentation during the test, and the online editor can be a bit laggy at times. If you are successful at the assessment, you will receive a phone call with no prior notification, so make sure to pick up calls from unknown numbers. During this call I was asked if I was available to work at both the Sydney and Melbourne offices, as this was a requirement to move forward with the role. In other words, you have to be willing to relocate to be a successful applicant.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at FDM Group (Hong Kong) in Apr 2026

      Interview

Don't interview with this unprofessional company. Completed the interview with no response until 3 months later saying they thought I was just a mediocre candidate despite their engineers saying that I did pretty well in the technical assessments. The reason? HR simply didn't think I was good... from a 5 min generic interview asking basic questions from my resume. Better off working at other companies and saving your time. Would rather be jobless than work here. Good riddance! First round is a phone interview with basic questions. Second round same like 1st but online on a zoom call with some generic tech questions with HR. Third round is an in person half-day interview with three rounds. First is a 5 min HR interview, then group interview, and lastly technical assessment.

      Question 1

What is a variable? Some topic about AI and tech in the workplace.

      Interview

A simple virtual interview on teams with a recruiter and one other interviewer. The interview is fairly simple and very non-technical whatsoever. It is more to assess your behavioural traits rather than your technical ability.

      Question 1

Your approach to solving a complex problem.
