I applied online. I interviewed at GitHub in Apr 2022
Interview
I was screened by a woman but the hiring manager was male. I have worked in data centers for over twenty years. The hiring manager asked a lot of star based questions. I am disabled, don't have verbal fluency in fact if I talk too long I start slurring, Not saying this happened. I talked about the various saves I did over the years, catching things like installing circuits in the wrong location. A lot of work in data centers is routine. Even upgrades and patches are not difficult. I was rejected a few days later because I was not technical enough. Surprisingly it is not even considered to be insulting to a woman to say that. Everyone agrees with it. Women are not supposed to be technical so if if like a trained monkey I can power on a router its considered a great achievement. I was so insulted. I was massively insulted. A masters degree twenty years working on the ground floor from the bottom up. I installed servers, I have loaded software. I have troubleshooted. I have done turn-ups. What an insult. Its okay to insult women. I even complained to HR about the obvious chauvinism. This guy had the balls to tell me I didn't have enough technical experience when its more than like I had way more than he did. So disappointed in Github. So so disappointed.
