I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Groupon

Interview

A series of 3 virtual interviews, with 2 being programming interviews and one of them more behavioral. The questions were straightforward Python questions that most CS students should be able to handle.

Three interviews, very chill and relaxed. But a really exciting and fast paced process that doesn’t leave you questioning or feeling like you were ghosted. Really lovely interviewers that make you feel as tho there was no reason to be stressed

Interview

I wanted to give my opinion on the interview process at Groupon for the role of Customer service representative. I badly wanted a job, that too during such unprecedent times. Even me and my family were affected by COVID and was already in a great personal turmoil. That is when I got to know about this role at Groupon. The first round was telephonic, post that I was asked to give my English test. Then I got to know that I had scored well and my profile has been processed to the manager round. The whole process got over in 2 days, and I was told that I had cleared the interview and was asked to await my offer letter. The submission of the required documents was also done. I was really happy that I got through and the whole interview process was smooth to be honest. My DOJ is now nearing, but the recruiter, as I await my offer letter, asked me to wait for a while. This is when, all of a sudden, I received a call from the company yesterday, saying that, there is now a change in the business direction, my typing speed was below 38 WPM, and I'm supposed to get a cut-off score in each of the segments in that English test, which I was told that I had cleared previously. This, they said, now means that I'm no longer qualified for the role. How is that a person be rejected post the whole interview process, having submitted the documents and been told he/she had cleared the test and asked to wait for the offer letter? This absurd, pathetic and not at all transparent interview process took me aback. Such a woeful interview process, that too for an entry level role, in a company of Groupon's stature is shocking. They aren't looking for people, they just need typewriters to do the job instead. Maybe, the role should be renamed as "Typewriter service representative". I would hardly recommend anyone to go work at Groupon, no matter the role. Looking at people, during such chaotic times, desperate, looking for jobs being treated this way is inhumane and sick.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Groupon

Interview

I interviewed for a senior position in a team in charge of tools for the migration to AWS. Before the interviews I explicitly asked if the interviews would be about engineering principles and background rather than specific knowledge of tools -- and they confirmed this. So I did the interviews, apparently passed all of them, but the team ultimately rejected me for a lack of knowledge and experience of their tools / stack (k8s, etc), despite having stated specific knowledge was not required (it was mentioned a "nice-to-have" in the job description). During the wash-up meeting, apparently the manager of another, sibling team joined, liked my profile and my interview outcomes and asked the recruiter if he could meet me for an informal chat. So the recruiter organized the call with me and this other team manager. The informal chat turned out to be 1h of behavioural + technical questions. Besides, I later came to know that the position would have been less senior and lesser in compensation than the one I applied for, and I would be reporting to the manager in Bangalore, with no one else of the team in Dublin. I politely declined the offer and went for another one I had. It was a pity as I felt I liked the team and I could make a significant contribution. Besides, I don't understand their gatekeeping and choosy stance on arbitrary technical grounds despite the positive interviews outcome. It doesn't seem to be warranted by what they do (it's not rocket science, and tools can be learned on the job), or by the company's overall financial state (badly hit by the pandemic, in need for a business model refresh).

Interview Questions
  • Standard operations questions; reasonably easy coding questions; project deep dive.

The interviewers had good questions and were kind enough. The typical questions you can expect. Nothing out of the blue. Only one interviewer was a little curt but I guess that's the stress test.

Interview

I applied via LinkedIn , got response within a week or so. 1. 30 mn HR Screening with recruiter. 2. Technical round 1 hr live problem solving coding (leetcode style) along with some technical questions and behavioral que. 3. same as round 2 4. Behavioral round 1 hr 5. System design 1 hr -> specific design scenario problems 6. Behavioral round cultural fit this whole interview stage process took a lot of time around more than 5 weeks. Even after that decision stage took further close to 2 weeks then got the good news but via unofficial channel. finally Offer stage took around a week for officially to be offered which i think was a bit unprofessional way to negotiate. All n all didn't feel the sense of belonging specially talking with Tech Mgr and other offers were better. hence declined, even that was also didn't went smoothly.
