      Brand Specialist Interview

      15 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I interviewed at Instacart in Sept 2019

      Interview

I applied for this job on a whim and was pleasantly surprised when I heard back. My background is in marketing whereas this role was more data-driven–which was a concern of mine. I intimated that to my interviewer to be entirely transparent yet she heavily reassured me that was not a problem since not every applicant can tick off every qualification and they would teach upon onboarding. She was extremely complementary and said I had nothing to worry about and that I essentially was a shoe-in for the position. I had to take a data assessment, which I know I didn't do great on because as I mentioned, the role really wasn't for me. I'm not upset I didn't get the position because the assessment made it clear it wasn't info I'm familiar with, as I voiced in my interview. What irritated me was that after all the time and effort it took, I NEVER heard back. No rejection email or anything. Nothing is tackier and more flippant than that so it was a blessing in disguise. It would benefit the recruiting team to learn some common correspondence along with thoughtfully choosing the correct applicant for a position rather than just trying to fill the spot.

Quick process, however there is a lot of work that goes on during the different rounds of interviews. However, it gives great insight into the type of work you’d be doing.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Instacart (Chicago, IL) in Feb 2020

      Interview

I had a phone screen, then went to the next round that included taking a test, then the final round was at their WeWork and I had a few different interviews with people in various departments. I was asked to bring a completed task / project with me to the interview as well. A majority of the in-person interview was quite uncomfortable as I was asked the same question over and over or wouldn't get any conversation back from the interview panel. I left without expecting much nor did I want the role, but then I never heard anything from them again.
