Interview
I applied online at the beginning of the December. The process took a week. I interviewed at Jane Street (New York, NY) in December 2016.
For now 3 rounds of phone interviews. Already share my last 2 rounds in another post. Short interview, last about 30 mins. Only a single long question in this interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
200 pieces of 1 dollar coins, for each one it has equal probability to go into the pot or not. You will bid for that pot (get the money in the pot but you don't know how many coins are exactly in the pot). Anyone who offers the highest bid win the auction. What would you bid (with 1 competitor, 10 competitors)? Now if just we two bid and we are trying our best strategy, but I have the advantage of knowing how many of the first 10 coins go into the pot. What will be our strategies? How much will you bid and what is your expected payoff?
The process began with serveral online tests for maths and logic. They gave a personal interview to get to know the candidate better and evaluate fit for the company/role, then held a technical interview covering maths and logic problems.
Fun and filled with unexpected questions. The questions rely on fast thinking and fast calculations, and sometimes intuition because there is no sufficient time for me to work through the whole problem.
We started with a bit of small talk, followed by some probability questions. Ended with some basic algebra questions, Make sure to ask questions if you have any. Good experience, feels like the interviewer was trading.
