      Interview

      2 Apr 2009
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at JetBlue in Jan 2007

      Interview

When I first heard about JetBlue and found out that they were going to be opening services in my city I thought "this must be a joke!" I had never heard of the airline. I did a little research and found out that JetBlue had some basic core values that I appreciated and found as a natural fit. They value safety and they had a vision of bringing caring and passion and fun and integrity into the airlines. After reviewing these company values I knew that this was an airline that I could respect and in some ways the interview was already unfolding even before I applied because after I did my research I already knew that I subscribed to the same basic principles and could easily demonstrate that in an interview. One thing that stands out about my formal interview with JetBlue was being invited to share an experience in my previous employment in which I demonstrated caring and how it made for a customer. When I shared an experience I noticed something very unusual about the interviewer's reaction. She really was drawn into the story and wanted more details. She seemed to feel connected to the experience in an unusual way. It became clear to me that their values were not just benchmarks on an interview rubric. She was clearly demonstrating caring at that very moment in her job as interviewer. It was something extraordinarily unusual to experience in an interview because it made it very clear to me that their values were truly 'valued' and they craved this same profile of caring and passion and fun and integrity and safety throughout the company. It gave me tremendous regard for the airlines and I knew immediately that if a person had 'bluffed their way through' on the interview it would show itself easily - because they were looking for a certain personality type to promote their very targeted brand of customer service, and you either were a match or you weren't! Even if I had not been hired I would have remembered that interview process because it taught me a lot about being genuine and sincere. It always pays to do your homework before an interview, but in this case it was clear that you couldn't 'cram' the night before. Your life either demonstrated the values or it didn't, and it would be obvious.
