Contacted by recruiter who assigned a coding project. I turned in the working code along with some extra credit. Then I had a phone screen. Asked the usual "so tell me about your self...' questions, description of their work, and asked about experience with AWS. I told him I'm not deep in AWS but have covered the basics like EC2 and S3, deploying resources with Ansible and Terraform.
Next was an online technical challenge with AWS. He didn't 't know how to conduct this challenge correctly and combined with the coding project, this became an excessive use of my time before getting onsite. The coding part was good, as I welcome such projects that contain clear concise goals that are be broken into reasonable chunks. The AWS challenge was poorly designed and was a pretty big task for a 1 hour interview. Not reasonable to expect someone to complete so quickly. It also lacked any progression where I could complete small components, get credit for them and move onto the larger piece. A problem in one piece breaks the whole thing.
