The hiring process at NerdWallet takes an average of 30 days when considering 1 user submitted interviews across all job titles. Candidates applying for Frontend Developer had the quickest hiring process (on average 30 days), whereas Frontend Developer roles had the slowest hiring process (on average 30 days).
The interview process consisted of an HR screening, a hiring manager interview, a case study and presentation round, followed by four panel interviews with different stakeholders. All of the panel interviews were scheduled on the same day, which made for a long and exhausting experience.
That said, the process was very well organized and structured. The transitions between rounds were smooth, expectations were clear, and the recruiting team did an excellent job coordinating the schedule and keeping candidates informed throughout the process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
A fairly standard interview process overall. The case study was straightforward, but the SQL round involved live coding in Coderpad and focused on concepts such as ROW_NUMBER(), CASE statements, and joins. They appear to place significant emphasis on SQL proficiency, even at the Director level, likely because the role is highly execution-oriented and requires hands-on engagement with data.
I applied online. I interviewed at NerdWallet in Feb 2026
Interview
Initial recruiter call, then call + CoderPad assessment with the hiring manager/team lead. Those went well. I next had a combo system design and second technical interview, and this is when the process felt awkward. While the team lead was communicative on the original interview, the second technical interview had less than 20 minutes for a multiple step problem that was poorly written and communicated. The interviewers were not very interested or helpful, and it felt rushed. The system design portion was better, but everything felt too condensed without having a lot of time to actually focus on either problems effectively. It was further complicated having back-to-back assessments in one session in less than an hour and a half.
Also, HR was completely invisible the entire process when I asked for clarification or feedback. I reached out multiple times but only once received a response from a senior representative. They wanted to connect with me on other platforms but never took time to answer my emails or messages. This behavior felt highly unprofessional.

Question 1
CoderPad assessment on a string manipulation problem
Interview process was pretty straightforward. A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn and I booked some time to chat with them. My role, expectations, qualifications, and salary were within what they were looking to hire.
I had a phone interview/chat with the hiring manager, Lavi, it went well and was invited to come back for a second in-person interview/presentation.
During the in-person presentation, I absolutely crushed it! The hiring manager and I were vibing pretty well and the conversations were going really well. We wrapped up on a positive note and I left the office feel excited about next steps overall.
A few days later, I get an automated email saying that they are not continuing my candidacy with no feedback whatsoever. I wrote a quick email to the hiring manager, Lavi, asking for any feedback or where I can improve for other roles. I receive no word back. I reach out again two days later, explaining that I had spent a good bit of time preparing, planning, creating the presentation for them (and also spending time going to the office), and would really appreciate any feedback. Still no response or feedback. I felt really disrespected for the time and effort I put into the conversations and interviews I had with them, for them to very informally send me a rejection email with no context/feedback on an interview that I personally felt really good about.
