The interview process took a little longer than average from start to offer letter but that was mostly driven by my own limited availability at the time. I was contacted by an OfferUp recruiter via email and after doing some research on the company it sounded like a great opportunity and a good fit.
We started things off with a phone call with the recruiter that was relatively low-tech but was essentially a standard phone screen call. The recruiter was great to talk to and the call was friendly and low pressure.
The next stage was meeting 1:1 with the OfferUp CTO. Due to my work schedule we had a hard time finding a good time to schedule but the recruiter was very helpful in getting things worked out. The time ended up being in the evening during the week and we met at the OfferUp office in Bellevue. It was great to be able to fit in a late evening meeting like that so it didn't interrupt my work. The meeting was again friendly and comfortable. We got into much more technical conversation than during the phone screen but it again wasn't a high-pressure feeling interview. I enjoyed the chat and we ended up talking for so long we were the last two people to leave the OfferUp office for the evening after a quick tour of the space.
The next day I had an email from the recruiter on the details for how OfferUp does their interview loops. This included the information on a 30-minute demo presentation that the loop would start with. The demo fit and made sense given the position and I was able to get any detailed questions answered via email while preparing.
A couple weeks later (thanks you my work schedule) I headed in to the OfferUp office for my full loop. I arrived early and was greeted by the recruiter who quickly helped to get me set up in their conference room so everything would be ready for the start of my demo presentation. I was given access to the kitchen if I needed anything to drink and offered a chance to take a bathroom break before kicking things off.
The demo itself went well and was actually fun; the engineers in the presentation asked some great detailed questions and we spent some time talking about my chosen implementation and the positive and negative features of that plan. People were engaged and curious and I didn't feel like I was being questioned or was completely off-base. It was a great experience.
After that we moved to the 1:1 (and actually also a 1:2) portion of the loop. Everyone was very friendly and inviting. One of the 1:1 interviews we actually went for a walk around the office park while we talked. It was comfortable and fun while being a great break from the more traditional stuffed-in-a-room interview. Each person was professional and polite and answered all of my questions. I even ended up meeting the CEO as the last stop in my loop which was very cool.
Through the process I had met with several engineers, the CTO, the CEO, and the marketing manager. Everyone was a pleasure to talk to and very professional. The CEO, especially, was someone you could tell truly believed in what OfferUp is and can be in the future; he truly believes in the product and vision. It was an awesome experience.
It was a brief wait before receiving an offer letter which was sent via email after a call from the recruiter.
The overall experience was very positive, professional, and friendly. It was easily the best interview loop experience I've had.
